Basement Crawl : PS4 launch title from Bloober Team

Trailer has 2013 at the end. There's only 7 weeks (Tuesdays) post launch that it could release in, and if this were coming on 11/19 I'm sure Sony would be pushing this more on their launch lineup so we're really only talking about 6 possible week. If this is indeed a 2013 title then my guess is late December, which is fine and really not that far away.

Nice teaser, but is it really still a launch game? Doesn't seem so.

But at least the trailer still says 2013.

I've definitely been trying to find out about it. But probably it'll be late 2013 if it comes, since we've seen so little of it

Seems like some sick & twisted version of Tangled, what's with the grandma keeping the little girl locked up in her apartment/house/whatever. :S

Kind feel the trailer deserves a new thread? Really weird title but that was a pretty good trailer.

This is one of those Dead Island cases, though, where the trailer company and the gameplay company probably are not the same people. (I know Bloober is part of a consortium of Polish developers, sometimes CG studios also are part of those business groups, but I would be very surprised if the game development team also made the trailer, and it'd be crazy to think this clip was made with game assets.)

So let's not hype this game up without some of the context of those of us who have been voicing all along (even though I vouched earlier for Bloober Team as a viable forget-the-Sadness-connection company.)

Let's be clear: the gameplay (which has yet to be shown) is some form of Bomberman or Pengu or Deathtrap Dungeon or something, a multiplayer (or SP with bots) game played in a maze with weapons. This trailer may be introducing you to the characters (I assume?), but it ain't gameplay.

Nice teaser, but is it really still a launch game? Doesn't seem so.

I would bet so ... not launch day, but "launch window" seems doable given that it's probably a lot smaller game than we're thinking and they're putting new stuff out with 2013 stamped on it. I don't remember media being out for A-Men but they promised it and they made it at launch, I don't think a PS4 launch (which seems to be an easier system to work with and publish for) is impossible. They're a cagey group, but I believe they're to the point where they understand how foolish it is to make promises they can't keep...

Note though that it's very likely they'll hit on release problems in territories. Europe might very well see the game in 2013, North America may not.

They're calling it "Q4 2013" on their Facebook page.

Hello fellow gamers!
I wanted to give you some information about a game we are currently developing for the PS4 launch window – Basement Crawl.

Gameplay-wise, Basement Crawl is a maze-based action game with some strategic elements. Our main inspirations were old classics like Spy vs. Spy and Bomberman, and gameplay revolves around setting up traps (self-detonated or activated by characters approaching it or stepping on it without noticing) to hurt other players. It’s focused on multiplayer, but basic single player campaigns with bots to fill in for missing characters will be available too.

While our inspirations go back to the retro classics, we are making a game up-to-date with the competition. It goes from the audio-visuals – Basement Crawl will be 2.5D game with dynamic cameras – to the game modes, characters and mechanics. We felt that many games nowadays are dependent on character development or luck and randomness, so we designed Basement Crawl to exclude the luck factor and remove the dependence on leveling-up characters. We want to make Basement Crawl as skill-based as possible and focus on hardcore players instead of casual or ‘middlecore’ players.

So expect to have much more control over what’s happening to you in every second of the game and expect to have to find your way out of situations by using your reflexes and fast thinking. Think of well-balanced, old-school fighting games – if you are new you can mash buttons randomly and have fun, but good players will always be able to show off their skills.

Basement Crawl will support both 4 player hot-seat and 8 player online play, as well as combinations of both. At the beginning, players will start with a selection of 4 available characters, all with their own unique skills balanced carefully against each other. And we want to show you the first three: midget clown, crash-test dummy and girl with a bear (or is it the other way around?).

While we want to keep the characters and unique skills to ourselves so as not to spoil future surprises, we would love to hear your feedback on our character designs. We are developers focused on Sony’s platform (we have two different games in final acceptance right now – Deathmatch Village and A-Men 2, both for both Vita and PS3) and feedback from the community is invaluable to us!

The Basement Crawl release date is still TBD, but we’ll update you with details as soon as we know more.

*Transposing this from another thread, this one works better as an "official thread" (plus it's not front-loaded with positive comments about the trailer, which as many guessed wasn't indicative of the gameplay.)

About what I expected from the description and the team's past games. I can't tell what the gameplay is just yet, but it's supposed to be some type of Bomberman / Pengu type game, I'm not seeing anything more complicated than that in the screens so far.

Between this and Tiny Brains, though, I'm surprised how little teams with very small projects are getting out of these new platforms. I didn't expect greatness but in these tiny little games I feel like we should be seeing super-smooth edges even if the assets aren't filled with detail.
