Batman Arkham Knight delayed to 2015

I think these devs want a bigger install base for ps4 and x1.so all the games ate geting pushed back till next year

And believe Miller did it with the comics as well.

He seems to be solely against gun guns... no problem with like rockets and the sorts

The Batmobile in Dark Knight Returns has guns, but that's a dark future/alternate timeline thing where Batman has gotten a lot rougher and nastier.

I didn't really consider the comics that much, since I'm not familiar with comic history. The Batman Wiki only mentions one revision of the Batmobile that had tranquilizer guns.

Usually stuff like rubber bullets, tear gas or anti-vehicle weapons. Air to air and air to ground weapons for the plane.
 
I think the real reason for the delay is to change the Arkham Knight from being the Joker once they noticed all the "it better not be the Joker" comments lol.

Yeah, they probably want the install base to get close to 20 million before releasing the game. Its probably at around 12 million right now between PS4 and Xbox 1, a year from now I bet it will be close to 20.

That Batmobile had rubber bullets, the Flashpoint Batman (Thomas Wayne) used guns and in at least one of the 52 multiverses Batman resorts to using guns after Jason Todd dies.
 
Wonder if WB wasn't confident enough in the install base for a next-gen only title with a $70M-90M cost.

Judging by some posts in here suggesting the game was only ever 40% complete as of a month ago so highly unlikely they could finish 60% of the game in like 7 months

Makes me think that this whole thing was a planned strategy by WB. Announce game, give a release date knowing you can't make it, delay it

Basically I think WB expected 8th gen install base to be too low by the original release date and thus wanted to be in gamers thoughts without having to release to an less than stellar install base.

No idea if how well both systems are doing changes that though but if they planned to have the game done for next year it doesn't really matter

Yeah, that's why I wasn't comfortable commenting on comic book Batman's use of guns, there's several different continuities and dozens of different takes on the character. Even the central tenets of the character (no guns, no killing) have likely been challenged many times over.

More to my original point, I don't see why aiming a reticule and firing hitscan weapons at human or non-human targets really adds anything to a Batman game -- that's not really what it was ever about. I'm still cautiously optimistic and hope they have something ambitious to show off at E3 and beyond.

The thing that bugs me about these Dragon Age posts is this: it's already been delayed. Game was due out last year. Got an extra 10 months to finish.

I found that article, but I doubt it's true. More likely it's closer to 60%. And all this install base stuff is pretty ridiculous--Batman's not the game for that. People will buy the console to play Arkham Knight.

No, I'm afraid the problem here is:
- They said the frame rate was pretty crap in a few "hands on" interviews I read. They probably wanted a few months to get a handle on that.
- They realized they already had a game out in October that needed room to breathe in a month that was already full of releases.

Combine the two, and when Rocksteady went to WB to ask for a couple extra months, and it killed two birds with one stone.
 
While it's definitely a bummer, as long as far cry and destiny make it out this year then I'll be a happy camper! Batman, you take your time old friend.

Yes, WB purposefully planned all this so they could create a costly marketing campaign around October (printed posters, pre-order DLC agreeements, etc.) and then ditch it after a few months. What a ludicrous conspiracy theory. All they needed to do to get the game "in gamers thoughts" was to show big trailers (they have done) and demo gameplay at E3 (which they will do).

Another thing. The game has been in development for 3 YEARS already, on a pre-existing engine, for a game series that Rocksteady had already worked on for 5 years. The game is not 40% complete. Did they encounter some hurdles in next-gen development? Possibly. Has WB forced them to add multiplayer? Possibly.

No. Arkham Asylum was August with a September PC release, and Arkham Origin was by another team meant to fill in the gap. Granted we're still technically at one out of four with Blackgate thrown into the mix, and Asylum was under Eidos, but I figure if the game is done by early next year they won't wait that long to release.

A full year would really suck though, would have to hope it actually needs that time rather than some slavish obsession with a tradition the very first game didn't follow.

Posters are expensive now? DLC agreements that will still be in place when the game does release is somehow more expensive? What?

And has Rocksteady released any official reasoning for the delay as I have yet to see any official PR on the why?

That's a good thing I'd say, it means they didn't put the marketing into full gear and then decide to delay it. For the majority of the consumers it just appears as it's normal dev cycle.

Rather than what we have here. Also no one was honestly expecting it launch with next gen versions at launch with those consoles.
 
Aside from Second Son and Ground Zeroes there's 3 reasons i got a PS4:

First i learned Witcher 3 was this year and 2 days later... BAM! 2015!

Then the gameplay teaser for The Order came out and won me over. What happens? BAM! 2015!

Finally i'm like "i don't care about all these delays cause at least i'll have Arkham Knight this year"...

I'm highly anticipating TLOU PS4 but i don't even want to celebrate cause i'll jinx it and Sony will say "August".

Yeah, all that stuff is kind of expensive.

Obviously his list wasn't comprehensive but you don't normally go through the trouble of creating release dates/periods, placing them in your marketing, and then completely abandoning them just to "drum up interest."

(doubt it!)
, and Project Cars
(not a chance!)
will make it out this year.
 
Man, 2015 is going to be HELL on people's free time, with all the movies and games and shit. It's like the most high-profile single year since 2007
