Batman Arkham Shadow on Quest 3 is the best batman game ever made!

This is an incredible piece of VR gameplay that is right up there with Half Life Alyx. It's one thing to play as batman using a controller. It is a whole different thing to kinda take on the role of batman. From Moving my hands up to my head to clicking my detection visor, from Opening my arms to float over long gaps with my cape, to glide kicking an enemy from 2 stories up, from using my arms to swipe my cape to stun enemies, to pulling batarings from my body to throw at enemies, to using my hands to grab and enemies shoulders to force my knee into their face to so many more. I cannot believe this is a packed in VR game and it is fantastic. The Story is interesting and aligned with the batman universe, the voice acting is great, the variety of game play keeps things interesting to just zip lining from building to building or perch to perch to take down a group of enemies.

Beating people up is the best part. It really does make you feel like a bad ass when you jump into a group of enemies and just piling on the combo's by swinging the correct ways, counter punching, swiping my cape, and so much much more. This is a fantastic VR battle system that keeps things fast and furious. Plus you get a workout at the same time because after beating up a group of baddies it gets the heart and blood flowing. Posting a youtube Video does not do this game justice because seeing it through the lense of a VR headset and batman is where the real magic is.

VR gaming is plagued with not having top notch software but things are starting to look up and there is the occasional Gem like this that shows what VR is capable of. This is easily up there with Half Life alyx, Resident Evil 4, the walking dead, Arizona Sunshine and so many more beloved VR games. This game is fantastic and really hope to see VR continue the patch of making reall AAA games instead of just relying on the indie studios.

Batman Arkaham Shadow is top notch entertainment and a super unique experience!

Honestly, Alyx doesn't really impress me that much in 2024 (or, 2025, as of today). I can absolutely see it being incredible on release, almost 5 years ago, but the gameplay feels "dated" quickly, especially in regards to how movement works. I surprisingly had a better time with Resi4, which feels ironic when describing Alyx as "dated".

I only played for like 2 hours so far though, so maybe it gets a lot better later on. Still obviously a great game.

I'm about to start the new Metro. Hoping for something that feels like a 2024 AAA vr experience. Sadly batman isn't really my thing, allthough I know I oughta try it at one point seeing how good the VR game is supposedly.

Yeah let me buy a meta 3 for a single game

Isn’t this you saying you’d buy a PSVR2 for Half life Alyx?

I can’t get Batman to run on Meta 3. It came with the headset. It just stays on the three dots. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled and it just shows the logo now. It takes forever. I haven’t gotten to play it a single time. I looked online and other people had the same issue.

The combat implementation is genius: By "gamifying" combat instead of going physics-based, Arkham Shadow made it feel solid and 99% devoid of VR jank, and in a way (like someone on Youtube said) it feels like the flatscreen Arkham games' combat was modelled AFTER Arkham Shadow's combat. Because what you do in Arkham Shadow is just you moving your hands and body naturally, something that all of us know how to, and the flatscreen games had to abstract our natural movements into button presses.

The story might not be as grandiose as the other Arkham games, but it is more personal and... spoilers ahead:

There is this moment where events lead Batman having to reveal his true identity to save someone and this is not done in a cutscene you watch, no no no. YOU take off your cowl and not because the game told you so, but because IT FELT APPROPRIATE TO DO SO at that moment in time.

You don't do this (Press X to unmask) shit you would do in a flatscreen game, you just put your hand over your head, hold the grip button to grab your cowl and pull it off.

In just a couple of seconds I experienced a torrent of emotions like no other game had made me. I was like: "damn it, there is no other way but I have to do it." and 1 second later: "Holy shit it actually worked! Camouflaj, you bastards! I am actually acting out as Batman!" I was a nervous wreck and laughing like a maniac who just won the lottery (or at least I think I would feel like that if I ever won the lottery).Think of Bioshock's "Would You Kindly?" But times 100.

That single moment cemented BAS as my personal GOTY, and that's including non-VR games.

AR missions in the Arkham series still demolish anything VR has to offer

Call me when VR gets combat that isn’t just Wii Boxing with a Batman skin

As someone who ranked near the top leaderboards on xbox 360 Arkham games, this VR game is the real deal. It's leagues above Wii bullshit. Not even remotely close.

There's been several times after playing, I was wondering how the hell they pulled this off so well. They absolutely did.

the truth? i'd just as likely have as much fun watching you playing this as I would playing it myself...

Until this game the only VR title I started and played without dropping was HL Alyx. Every other VR title I tried felt really meh and I would drop. This Arkham game is the real deal. It found it really immersive despite the 360 era graphics. The Quest 3 is neat coming from a Rift S. I think it will be a few more iterations of hardware and game development before I start gravitating toward VR.

My son has one and mostly plays gorilla tag. Nice to hear VR getting some quality games.
Certain games like you mentioned and blade and sorcery are like crack for little kids. Rec room is a complete disaster with little kids screaming and what not.

As someone who finished all the arkham games* multiple times, I find it very difficult to go back to Asylum because the combat just loses all the options (and a bit of snappiness too).

* Might not buy this one until it gets on Steam tho, I already own a Meta Quest 2 and I won't buy a 3 just for one game.

As a dude who absolutely despise free flow combat, i just like the location\plot\atmosphere of asylum more than the others.

I still rewatch this trailer to this day from time to time

The vr one has "kinda on rail" combat and i vastly prefer complete free form in vr games when it comes to combat (so more like gorn and not with forced inputs\movements to do a specific move).

The location and plot are tighter in Asylum, but City's highs are much higher for me (also the bosses in Asylum suck ass).

For me it's City > Asylum > Knight (only because they fucked up most of the side quests badly).

To me free flow combat is pretty shit for boss fights in general so they are not really a factor.

For me it's asylum-city, i was kinda burned by the formula by the time origins and knights were out but i guess origins over knight even just for not having the shitty, forced batmobile sections, but the counter move\combat was less precise in origins so the combat was probably the worst it ever felt, at least to me.

P.s. have you never played origins?

To anyone who thinks the combat is simple motion control nonsense, you wouldn’t last more than a few seconds in the later stages. This game is deep and oozes quality. The combat was made for Arkham fans. Watching videos of it doesn't do any justice because it's slowly introducing mechanics that build you up.

Origins is pretty awesome (on PC at least) if still buggy. I still like City better , but Origins is my second favorite.

Not sure about VR Batman since I ain’t buying whatever Meta is peddling but will try some VR stuff when Valve finally releases Deckard.

This is Asylum in VR, but you have to actually experience it. Watching a 2D video doesn't really convey the experience. I had a friend who was skeptical until he actually played it, he changed his tune afterwards.

Wish it was getting a port to PS5 for PSVR2.
Sadly this will remain a Meta Standalone exclusive, on the basis of it being a first party game.

I was someone who obsessed over the Arkham combat in the 2010s. I spent so many hours trying to rank at the top of the leaderboards. I would have scoffed at video footage of this VR game trying to be an Arkham game.

In practice though, it's the most fun and challenging Arkham game in the series, especially in combat challenges.

Screenshots and video of VR games do the experience no justice.

Even the graphics of VR games just seem so much better with the headset on. It all looks much more impressive in person.

The videos where you are watching a person play... where their head is looking all over the place.. I understand it looks janky is fuck. But you have to understand its not meant to be watched in that way.

Its like comparing a live concert experience to a video recording. It doesn't translate.
