Now here is a question, I believe beginning with Superman, almost every DC cartoon has had some sort of overly plot that are only hinted at in the other episodes before it came to a head. Superman/Darkseid, Batman Beyond/Blight or whatever that green guy was, and Justice League/Hawkgirl/Thangarians. But B:TAS never really had any plots like that for the most part the episodes were standalone. Sure some had to precede others, but some could be seen in any order to get the same effect.
Long story, short question. Do you prefer shows with overarching stories or ones that can tell good stories in a single or two episodeS?
The release is still too far off. Volume I has througherly impressed me in terms of quality. From the animation, to the art, voice acting, back ground music, stories, it's the whole package. Family Channel decided to show Batman Returns, and I decided to watch it, being as I haven't seen it since I was a kid.
I instead went to bed after an hour. This movie just isn't batman to me. Why must Bruce Wayne wait for the bat signal in order to start fighting crime? In the Animated Series, Batman prowls the streets and roofs every night, and usually beats the police to any crime scenes. Also, from what I seen of the movie, Batman was missing his "superpower" of of silently being anywhere at anytime. He never emerges from the shadows, but instead, fights hoodlums head on like a man in a rubber suit. Where's the lightening fast moves, and agility?

I prefer the single-episode style. I liked the Thanagarian story, but not because of the other episodes lead up to it. If a story relies to heavily on the anticipation or self-hype, then it's just not worth the time. Aw, I don't know, I guess it depends. Back in the day, comics didn't have to depend on long story arcs. That was sort of a conniving way of guaranteeing you'd sell a certain amount of books. Same with the cartoons. And I'd often miss an episode or two and then ask myself, why bother?
Gorgie, seriously, after reading Frank Miller's Batman and some Loeb/Sale stuff and watching the Dini/Timm series, I totally couldn't stand any of the movies. The movies are a overly-done caricature of Batman. What Batman relies on more than those gadgets of his is that same feeling that he felt when that single bat went flying towards him: fear. If he can make criminals afraid enough of him to stop commiting crimes, then, in his mind, that's way more useful then being locked up in arkham or gotham pen.

It was so disjointed, Batman's actions and the effect they had on criminals. Like you said, a charicature. Its like he decided to show "oooh, batman can do this... then this... and this!". Take away the fear and though he's still really powerful he's not nearly capable of controlling gotham the way he does in the comics. Thankfully though I expect the next Batman movie to nail it, just from the teaser trailer and director. I have a lot of faith in that.
Agreed...this is the sort of stuff I've said for years. The movies were just so weak in terms of delving into Batman's analytical mind, his stealth maneuvers, his martial arts ability. And some of the stuff that happened in the first two movies were just flat out stupid and illogical on any level. The new movie's defintely giving me hope though...I just hope it delivers.
