I loved that scene at the time. A shame that DC decided to scrap it.Batman being an empathetic father figure is pretty fucking important to what makes him interesting.

if Robin does exist in this universe in some capacity i imagine we'll get to see at least some of batman's compassionate side.

Why would anyone be surprised at this? He's a fan of comic books and I'm sure Warner Bros would pay a lot of money to get him on board. Unless you're looking at this through fanboy 'Marvel vs DC' goggles then it shouldn't shock anyone if Whedon (or any MCU director) jumps on a DC film. Or vice-versa.

Honestly, Snyder is a fuckin machine if he manages to actually do MoS, this, and JLA 1 & 2.
I can't imagine the stress those guys who do studio tent poles must be under.

Whedon's background is more TV and those have different stresses.
Pretty sure he was replying to the content of the quoted, not the image. The idea that Batman shouldn't "set out to hurt criminals, intentionally."
Batman's whole MO is to strike fear into criminals, and historically he's always beaten people to a pulp (Adam West's KAPAW and WHIZZAM rings a bell). Batman Begins had a good balance because there were a few scenes where Batman interacted or rescued a kid ("my friends will never believe me!"). Nolan's sequels kinda dropped that angle, and I don't expect a scene with Batfleck to gently save a cat from a tree - especially with the dichotomy of light/dark, heroism/vigilantism, etc. Superman's the one that needs to be put on the pedestal so there's the difference of views between the two heroes.
Batman's smart, poker-faced, brooding, and the bravest of them all (and also the most paranoid). But he also has his moments, in aiding and abiding an up-and-coming hero, in supporting his friends (he's the only one that showed up at the Flash's museum!), in giving just the perfect advice to his comrades, and more.
I think Bats should be scary... but ultimately heroic. And his gentler side should only be seen through the cracks when the entire Justice League is formed.
I think in Snyder's case part of why things might not get to him is that he works along side his wife and I think even kids. His wife is a producer on his films and I think I read his son does some stunt work on his films. So he's never apart from his family the way some other directors might be. That might do wonders for a person.

I don't think they would "pay him a lot of money to get him on board". It's obvious they have some sort of direction they want to go with the universe and they weren't afraid of ditching MacLaren. They already rejected his proposal for WW a long time ago. Not that I dislike Whedon, but I'm sure they already have a list of directors for all their films. I don't think Whedon is anywhere near blank check material like how WB treats Nolan.
Regardless, they probably can't sign onto WB for films for awhile and vice versa. Still it'd be fun for Whedon to do a TV show for them if that was possible. I think it would be fun to have him on Titans.
Tomasi's Batman B&R is how I want this Batman to be. TDKR Batman dangerously approaches trope level, and I don't like how he referred to his Robins as "soldiers". Dude wasn't even that broken up over Jason.
I liked young justice Batman as well. If we ignore the dumb Batman Beyond comics, JL Batman was a good template.
I disagree, Warner Bros has been working very hard to get a lot of major talent on board. They've been hiring a wide of variety of directors to work on the films. I don't see why Whedon would be against their vision (whatever it is). I don't think they'd have a problem bringing on the guy who directed the biggest comic book movie of all time.
I do wonder how long Whedon has to wait before he could do a film for Warner Bros or Fox. There has to be a competition clause in his contract where he can't work for them or do anything "superhero" related at least for some time. For all we know WB might want him for something else and them not liking his Wonder Woman pitch might not be an issue. It's more I think when they could work with him.

Probably no wait. Lord and Miller are everywhere working with everybody, and the Russo brothers recently signed a deal with Sony too. So unless Whedon screwed himself over on his contract, there's no reason he can't work with another company on a movie. If you mean specifically a superhero movie, maybe.
I think the biggest obstacle to any potential Whedon DC film is that he's tired as fuck of superheroes right now.

Whedon said he was tired of using other people's IP's for films. Fine by me if that means more material like Cabin in the Woods.
Cabin in the Woods kinda trades on other IP, if we're going to call a spade a spade.

That could be countered by having a lot more creative freedom than he might have had over at Marvel.
But yeah, 3 years knee deep in superhero movies must be tiring.
Five years, really. Whedon started working on the first Avengers in 2010. And his only real break from Marvel this whole time was the 2 weeks he spent doing Much Ado About Nothing.

So I saw some Avengers 2 spoilers that got me thinking about DC's movie slate: at the end of the film, there is an
At the start of their movie universe Marvel took characters nobody outside of comics knew about and made them huge, and they are going to continue this trend with the above spoilers and the Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies. Then I look at DC's movie slate and see that all they have planned for now to 2020 are movies for their most popular characters and I think that's a waste. They should shove some Blue Beetle, Amethyst, or Dr. Fate in there. And Dick Grayson should definitely exist, so he can take the Batman mantle when Ben Affleck is done. I would much rather legacy characters come to prominence than see heroes constantly get re-casted.

That didn't really start to happen in the MCU until guardians and ant man, though iron man was definitely b-list before the first movie. DC is just 5-7 years behind the MCU at this point. They're planning a cyborg movie...a character that's D-list when it comes to cultural popularity.
Not really a fair comparison when Marvel's first attempt at that wasn't even really until GotG. Which, excluding AoU, is their most recent movie.
And DC/WB has a Cyborg film in their second slate and Suicide Squad 6 months after BvS. They are doing fine.

Ay yo, I warmed up to Batfleck but I was pulling so hard for him or Jon Hamm to be Batman when casting for BvS was underway.
I think Gosling wouldn't have worked for TDKR Batman they are going for here, but I think he would have made a great young Batman. The only downside he has is his goofy voice but w.e..
On Whedon, idk I'd be interested in what his take on Batman would be but his quip-a-minute style doesn't seem to mesh with what the DCCU is setting up right now. Besides, while he's decent with his character work, nothing on his actual directing front has impressed me so far.
