Battalion Wars Impressions

Don't like it. Gameplay's too shallow. Too much VA. Game's been holding my hand way too much. Just not having fun.

Ironclad: 4 missions in. Probably going to sell the thing in about 2 hours.

Mission 4 is still the tutorial levels. Mission 6 is where it really takes off.

I'm on Mission 7. I'm trusting you guys when you say it gets better. That's what they said about Metroid Prime and Jak II, too.

5 and 6 were all right. I'll probably play this again some time tomorrow as it'll be the first time in about three weeks where I'll be able to really relax.

I know this is a little bit early and alarmist, but I'm worried about how well this game is doing at retail. My only evidence is this- GameFAQs. They don't have a single FAQ up for this game yet, but even more worrisome is the fact that it hasn't even cracked the top 100 requested FAQs. FarCry Insticts has already cracked the Top Ten for requests and that game just released this week.

I don't want this game to bomb because a sequel seems very well suited for the Revolution. Using the controller to direct your troops would make life much easier. Plus this game could have some pretty sweet online multiplayer.

So does no one buying = no requests for FAQs? I hope not, but I guess we'll find out in about a month.

The box art doesn't look like "BUY ME NOW KIDS", either.

Animal Crossing did sell well, though... let's hope copies of this manage to sell.

So a buddy of mine bought this, but since his GC is MIA at the moment, he played it on mine. He left it here, and I played around with it for a few missions.

Seems very fun so far... I'm actually surprised by that. There's a lot of variation, and there IS a neat thrill when you can just straight-up become any of your units on the fly. There's a good amount of polish to it, but there's still a good amount that can be worked upon too. I am definitely one of the ones that thinks that Kuju just needs to hurry up and make an online sequel to this for the Revolution.

It sounds great, but it's C$57, which is crazy high. I'm still waiting for Paper Mario 2 and Pikmin 2 to come down in price. Damn you first party Nintendo games!

Cool game, but my impressions of it aren't as hot as in the beginning. There are some really fun moments with the game, especially once you get the bombers, etc. but the controls and team ai get really tiresome to mess with too. This is in no way as good as the AW games and it makes more sense to me now that they didn't want to connect the franchise. I think I'm going to trade it back as there is too much good stuff out and coming out right now.

I would be more worried about the review scores, which will suppress sales more than pretty much anything else. It's currently ranked #458 at Amazon.com...

So now that it's two months later and a lot of you people have beaten it, what are your thoughts on the game in retrospect?

I was honestly going to hold off on this and Mario Kart: DD until they were $20, but right now I'm staring at the Best Buy ad with both games for $29.99 each with a $10 gift card for buying two games, and I'm guessing this is as close as I'll ever get to $20 considering the remaining lifecycle of the GC.

i traded it in for mario kart ds. i thought your units' ai was trash. i felt like i had to be in too many places at once because my squad wouldn't react accordingly. it's a shame though, because the game had potential. if there's a sequel maybe they can fix some of the problems--they've got a good base...
