Battlefield 4: Second Assault DLC tomorrow!!

I seriously wonder how a QA team got paid for their work on this.

DICE seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place. Gamers demand quick patches which obviously would mean less QA done on them, then we complain when QA hasn't been up to the task and found regressions. Seeing the delay on the PS4 patch compared to the PC patch, it seems clear they did another week of testing on the PS4 patch to make sure as far as it's possible that no regressions crept in.

With the new Metro it just seems like the choke point is no longer in the middle but there is now a much higher chance of either team pushing one back into their own spawn.

I'm yet to play a conquest game where the team starting in the streets didn't win by getting to B first and then spamming explosives down the three narrow routes up from C.

It really needed a street level route to bypass that point and attack A direct from C. Or extend the capture area for B into the lower level as well so that it can be capped without getting up the stairs.

I seriously wonder how a QA team got paid for their work on this.

Or imagine what it was like before QA got their hands on it :O

You know what would be really useful? Singleplayer shortcut kit.

Oh god, this is actually the only reasonable way to get that stuff. 6th wipe of single player file (again with no corruption popup) so I swear I will never launch it again. I was actually going to backup to a USB drive at the recommendation of someone else, but it was already gone lol.

I'm never gonna get the GOL. :(

Go on support, pick your favourite LMG (I used an MG4), select ammo box and claymore. Always go to the Firestorm tower (not Caspian, because everybody always tries to blow it up).

Start Conquest on Firestorm (and maybe hope you're on RU), head to the tower by C, climb up the first ladder and just stay there. Put a claymore by the ladder, everytime someone climbs up they'll be killed (which will count towards the assigment), then keep on replacing it every time.

The opposite team will start attacking the tower and C/E, so you'll be able to rack up a few kills in no time with an LMG. Just be mindful of people trying to snipe at you from a distance (probably with their GOL Magnums).

After that's done, all you need is the sniper rifle ribbon, all I did was equip the Scout Elite with a 6x scope and hang around where there's plenty of infantry. Sure you'll get killed but with the 6x scope it's quite easy to get a few kills and then you'll get the ribbon.

Good luck.

Damn the colour palette in caspian is glorious

Caspian is impressive. Metro is amazing. All of Second Assault is pretty badass.

Still getting some crashes (PS4) and getting killed by players with 0 health... but overall, its much more polished and less rubberbanding than at launch. First week (PS3 upgrade route) I would crash once every 2-3 games. I gave it up for over a month, and have just now come back. Things are improving, but we have a way to go.

If their QA teams were given enough time (which they probably weren't), they would have caught a lot of the bugs and reported them. Then it's up to developers and publishers to decide which ones to fix. It shouldn't come as a surprise that many, many bugs in the games these days are identified but not considered important enough to fix before shipping.

The only software in the world that is certified bug free is the software for the space shuttle. Every line of code requires a page of documentation, no version is shipped with any known issues. Obviously, that's not really workable in the Real World(tm), where all consumer software ships with, often, hundreds or more known bugs.
The complexity is too high and time pressure and competition for modern software is intense, so sacrifices are made.

As someone who has played BF since 1942, I absolutely loathe how this game has become about unlocks and knife kills and get x kills with certain guns. Very few people actually focus on just the objectives. The appeal of BF for me was the battlefield moments and achieving them by creatively using the arsenal at your disposal to protect or attack a point on the map often in tandem with friends. I find these DLC packs to be a reminder that Battlefield is nothing but a once great franchise that has succumbed to "me, too" game design rather than staying true to its roots and let the maps and moments create the reasons to return time and time again. I am glad fans are still having fun. I wish I was. But I have seen too many selfish "gotta-get-my-unlock" moments rather than unselfish teamwork and this DLC sadly reminds me how this franchise has fallen for me. Biggest disappointment by far of the last year.

No problems encountered for me and my friends so far (PS4).
These new maps are really good.
Metro is incredibly stupid and fun at the same time. Looks like to play a tug of war!
Caspian border is pretty nice. What a memories in this map ...
I always loved Operation firestorm and I love this new "twist".
Gulf of Oman is just awesome and scary at the same time. The mood is incredible. I spent a lot of time just to explore the whole map ... Awesome.

Stop rewarding EA/DICE with more of your money people.

I've had a handful of bugs through my 40 some hours of play, but nothing earth shattering. I've gotten more than enough fun out of it and will continue to do so until Destiny drops.

I find it more annoying my friend and I can't just join a game together as a squad. So dumb.

Bugs aside, the new maps are no fun at all (even less so than the first expansion) imo. I think I'll just wait for the next expansion.

They released a new patch that does a bunch of shit but doesn't address the single player save corruption bug. WTF, DICE, games been out for almost 5 months and you still do not have this fixed. How do you ship a single player campaign that one might not even be able to complete?

I payed $45 for BF4 on PS4. I've played over 100 hours in MP. So far I've paid less than 50 cents an hour for what I consider quality entertainment. Sure it has bugs, but it's never been "unplayable".

I've gotten my money's worth, that's more than I could say about a lot of less buggy games.

Hopefully Titanfall teaches them to not even throw a singleplayer mode in there. They obviously don't care about singleplayer.

The Second Assault maps are:

1.) Gorgeous. I think BF3's environments are more detailed than BF4's in the first place, and having an extra coat over them makes them look even better.

2.) Unbalanced as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I thought China Rising had some issues, but now I'm reminded that BF3's maps were a goddamn mess. Oman is always a wash, with one team capturing EVERYTHING. Metro always, always goes to whoever spawns on A first. Caspian Border was alright, but now they put a wall that nicely feeds A and B's tanks into killzones so you're kinda boned if you spawn there against a competent team. Firestorm is alright, a whole lot of being sniped by both snipers and tanks in the distance.

The single player campaign is lame. Usually it's the other way around. It's usually a game that should be single player only, including a half assed MP mode, Ryse comes to mind. BF should be MP only.

Dice, use the time and resources you put into the half assed campaign and put it into Making sure you have a smooth launch with BF5, please.

Yeah a direct route from A to C is badly needed on Metro.

RU starts 209m from B and US starts 267m from B. US has to get up that first escalator and around the elevators before they can even start capturing B I'm pretty sure. Pretty unbalanced.

There are still plenty of Battlefield moments to be had. Play with a regular group of people and you can have the team coordinated play. I've been surprised how many times I've gotten randoms into my usual squad of 3, that as the round goes on actually play the objectives we are, provide safe spawn points when they're last alive etc.

I never had an issue with people trying to unlock stuff over doing the objectives.

Knifing, sure. The amount of times I've been killed or seen people get killed by dudes who could've died beforehand by some guy trying to knife is too many. At this point it's not even worth it.

The biggest problem is what has existed since the beginning of Battlefield: Snipers. They stink, they do jack shizzle. Everytime I get killed by a sniper I bring up the scoreboard and never do I see them in the top ten for their team. They sit around and contribute nothing to their team.

I'm not sure the fault is entirely DICE's. I recently read that the save corruption has something to do with how Sony implemented cloud saving.

In other words, it MIGHT now be fixed. I know I personally haven't seen it since January, and I've been playing a TON of BF4, especially in the last 3 weeks or so. I check every few days if my campaign save is corrupted, and nope.

I usually use engineer, but I will spawn as a sniper when I'm defending a key capture point, and guys are coming in on boats or swimming. No, I won't get a ton of points, but I'll keep a critical point captured that my dudes can spawn on. I'm thinking especially of Paracel Storm, and how important getting and keeping point C is.

I'm never gonna get the GOL. :(

The GOL magnum is easy, you don't have actually get to the top and as long as you're a recon pistol/claymore etc count towards the 5 kills so long as they're from ONE of the platform on the tower, firestorm being the easier one tbh.

Yup. Stopped using the Saiga and the Hawk for it. It is a beast.

I know a lot of people dislike this game because of the bugs, but I got more time in this game (140 hours) than any BF since 2.

Same here. I actually really like the shell-by-shell reload. You almost never get caught out with an empty mag/during a reload this way like with the Saiga and Hawk. Plus, you can just spam bullets with that insane rate of fire & mag size.

The F2000 is also an insanely good AR. Nice intermediate between the AEK/FAMAS and the slower firing rifles.

Haven't tried the GOL/M60 yet. Been having too much fun with the DAO, lol.

not to derail the conversation but is anybody having issues with being killed in (what appears to be) one shot that is not a headshot?

Its almost completely killed any fun I was having with this game when it seems like one round to the leg kills me.

As someone who has played battlefield since bad company 2, I focus on the objective. And the game pushes me to try different guns and gear cause of the unlock system.

BF4 hasn't been a mess for weeks now. Most, if not all of the significant issues have been ironed out. The only problem I have is that the netcode, hit registration, whatever you want to call it is still really strange at times, but aside from that the game is rock solid.

Yeah, aside from the unreliability of being able to hit someone you aim at the game works fine.

Metro should have never been remade for this. Absolute clusterfuck on nearly every mode. The map is not designed for 64 players. So many better maps that would have been great.

Then dont play it with 64. Not every map is made for 64. 32 on it feels great, as does 16 in certain modes.

Rubberbanding got worse again on PS4. Ugh.

Is EA just being a bunch of cheap asses with their servers?

Grab a spawn beacon and any weapon other than a sniper rifle and you can do the same job better.

Why are next-gen consoles so shitty at automatically downloading stuff? Wanted to play this, bought premium months ago, have all the PS4 auto download settings on. Boot it up Friday... Oh you want to play these maps? Well consider this 4.8GB download good sir. Fuck that.

PS4 auto downloads updates but not game dlc. I wish it would though, I feel your pain.
