I play using progressive scan, but it's not a huge increase in quality for me over component, since I only have a 26inch Widescreen TV.

That's completely true for me as well. I will probably buy an HDTV between the Xenon and PS3 launches (for both).

Well this is true for me personally. I don't really care about HD for TV or movies, I'm quite happy with what we have now, but for games I'm totally going to upgrade.

I sure plan to buy a HDTV compatible set later this year. I have my eyes on some DLP projection TV from toshiba. Can't wait for 720p gaming

this is true. i remember when PS2 basically drove DVD to the mainsream. i remember before PS2, blockbuster didn't have hardly SHIT to rent on DVD's. it was all still VHS crap.

gaming drives a lot of technology. expecially on the PC. it will definately drive HDTV's if all 3 consoles support it %100. guarantee sales for HDTV's will hit the bigtime in a hurry. gamers will spend some fucking money on their habbit lol.

I appreciate that they are trying to provide the best audio/visual quality output in upcoming consoles, but until the prices on HDTV/speakers drop to something extremely reasonable, I'm content to stick with what have. Hundred/thousands of dollars for minor upgrades in clarity just doesn't make much sense to me.

I used the same TV now that I used for N64, PSX and Dreamcast and really don't see what I'm missing. Unless widescreen becomes a standard for all games next gen, I don't see the need to upgrade.

Really, you think the PS2 drove DVDs into the mainstream THAT much? It didn't really appear that way to me.. does anyone have any sales data that showed that DVD sales skyrocketed after the PS2 was released? I'm just curious..

I think they became more mainstream as DVD players got cheaper. Much cheaper. Like $25 Apex DVD players cheap.

Actually what will drive HD are flat panels. Content is largely irrelevant because people will get a HDTV whether they want it or not when they buy a new set.

I don't think HDTV will have a massive effect, I go to peoples houses and still see games consoles hooked up through composite and sometimes even now; RF. My heart cries everytime.

I have a widescreen HDTV & a 4x3 HDTV. I only play my old Genesis, SNES & Saturn games on my old non-HDTV set. It's tough to imagine going back at this point, and for me the improvement was well worth the cash.

Something's gotta drive it because 99% of the content that I recieve that's in HD isn't worth shit. All I watch in HD is sports and the occasional IMAX film. NBC, FOX, CBS, and ABC's HD offerings are a joke and a majority of them don't even look that great. There's only so much INHD1, INHD2, and DiscoveryHD I can take.
