"On the left if you're consuming fake news you're 34 times more likely than the general population to be a college graduate," says Green.

If you're on the right, he says, you're 18 times more likely than the general population to to be in the top 20 percent of income earners.

And the study revealed another disturbing trend: the more you consume fake news, the more likely you are to vote. It's "fascinating and frightening at the same time," says Green.

Let's be honest. There's no reason for half of the right wing fake news anymore. Hillary lost. Why would right wing sites continue to promote fake news about her.

Meanwhile Donald trump is center stage every single day. It's only natural that more fake news would start to rise up against him. Especially with the backlash. People are wanting to grab onto things about him.

As liberal as I am, I had to block "Occupy Democrats" from appearing on my facebook feed. Annoying untrue bullshit isn't helping anyone.

They found back during the election that left-wingers were less likely to buy into it. You'd put it out there and get two or three comments in and find someone fact-checking. There is definitely a share of conspiracy whackos on the left who'll believe anything and doubt everything as long as it gets The Man mad, but the proportions skew in favor of the right-wing base.

Incoming useless anecdote....

One of my old high school friends is always spewing nonsense on facebook. He's either making shit up or posting fake news, amd constantly gets called out for it. Sad thing is, he just got his PhD in psychology and has patients now. I fear for them.

While I have noticed a lot of Anti-Trump fake new stories once they get debunked people seem to dismiss them quickly, like the few that have made it into GAF threads.

Contrast this with people in the right wing who still believe in Pizzagate even after the pundits that started it have admitted that it was a hoax.

By using specialist software, the company's researchers then followed readers' online behaviour to get an idea of who and where they were.

This intrigues me. All I can come up with is that either it's a very controlled environment or, perhaps more likely, they use some intrusive piece of software...

Someone help me out!

Edit: Totally unrelated to the topic. Sorry.

I've been forced to come to the conclusion that some significant percentage are just helpless to this stuff. They're either unwilling or unable to initiate any kind of critical thinking when it comes to news that feeds whatever their little pet political identity is. The data suggests that the right is more susceptible to this stuff than the left and I believe it, but the left has it's fair share too.

I think a lot of brains just weren't made to be able to handle democracy. it's too much responsibility for the dumb fuckin lizard brains we got stuck with

ready to be ruled by omnipotent robots personally

Is there a correlation between likelihood of voting and the more someone consumes actual news? Is there a correlation between the amount of real news consumed and fake news consumed?

Russia has been the natural enemy of the west since the Great Game. We need to do whatever it takes to neutralize them

I'm surprised there's even a market for anti-Trump fake news. The real shit he says, does, and signs off on is more than enough. I think it would make me physically ill to live in this country and think any worse of him.

I notice a lot of the most stridently, sensationally anti-Trump articles posted on Reddit come from The Independent. That's owned by Russian oligarch Alexander Lebedev. Now I can understand this is all probably just because he's a Putin enemy, but the idea of the truth being muddied by a propaganda battle between two rich Russians worries me.
