Beatmania for PS2?

I could have sworn that after E3 I heard some shit like Konami was going to release a beatmania game for the ps2. What ever happened to that? Did I just get some bad info or something?

I loves me some beatmania and them doing that would keep me from spending an assload trying to import it, or even more playing at the arcade.

Yup, it's still coming out... looks like it'll be out on March 1, 2006:

Until you get truly addicted and need the import versions just to have more songs and more more more... :)

The US Controller is worlds better than the Japanese standard controller
The game however, is not.

What to do? Buy the controller seperately, import the real game.

speaking of beatmania, is there such a thing as a website where you can see the videos that play on the middle of the screen in-game? Some of those are pretty cool, but you rarely get to see them completey (since you're busy playing and all).

Bemanistyle used to have 'em, they might still. You have to put up with posting on the forums to earn "tokens" to watch them, though.

Or you can put the game in autoplay (or use video mode in 6th).

That's how the DDRs were, so it wouldn't surprise me.
I didn't pay too much attention to it at E3 (like many, I've been through all the J-releases from 3rd through 10th Style), but lots of ANCIENT songs, dating all the way back to the earliest 5-key days (Hunting For You, U Gotta Groove, etc.,). IIRC, there were some songs that looked new to the IIDX series... mostly licensed songs from the US and Europe, sorta like the US DDR releases.

I'm pretty surprised that Konami is releasing this now, but with the popularity of Guitar Hero, it might actually be a good time to do so.

sweet, it's coming with the controller? I was thinking about importing one for a hefty price, just so I know it won't suck balls.

this one would be awesome to have: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=22&products_id=5245&

but i'll settle for this one: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=22&products_id=5221

Ransai and Desktop Arcade will be releasing their IIDX controllers soon (They already do Pop'n Music controllers). The custom controllers will likely be higher quality than the Konami ASCs.

Believe this mans news. There's a few recent songs but it's mostly stuff from when I freakin' started and I'm a Bemani Dinosaur.

How is the US controller better? Well, it's just put together properly. Keys are rounded off so they don't stick. . and. . HEY! THATS ABOUT IT! In all seriousness, this thing is going to last a lot longer than the JP controller and unless the kids really like their grippy-bottom mods, I can't imagine people cracking these open with the exception of a cleaning or two.

I actually might buy Beatmania for the first time in my life too. . Buy a US controller and pick up IIDX Red whenever that comes out.

Hey Sl1p, not sure if you remember me from Bemanix, etc. -- I was Spriggan over there. I was there when Chango busted the Do It All Night and MF2U videos, and grew up with these games when Ultra Zone was the biz. :) Those were the days... 3rd Mix SSR and CM2... Genom Screams-A gave me carpel tunnel. :lol

Thanks for the 411 on the US IIDX controller... my J-controller is so wasted after years of use. It'd be worth it to buy a new US one for the rounded keys alone (I'm too lazy to mod mine).

I'll buy this to support Bemani in the States. I sold off my Japanese setup, I was poor, and wanted to get money for my controller while I still could.

Game kicked my fucking ass, hard, I'm kinda scared to try again...

Dude. . 3rd Mix is STILL the best :D

2nd 3rd mix (korean) being the best.

back when ddr wasnt about quadrouple A's and 5000bpm crap.

I am pleased this game is coming out here, bad mix or no.

You might as well go with 4th+, then, since if I remember correctly it includes that entire mix and adds tons of great new stuff. It was all downhill after that, though. :(

Hey, 5th Mix had some good songs, too... I loved the IIDX stuff like DXY! & Radical Faith (all the TaQ stuff, actually), and Can't Stop Fallin' In Love (Speed Mix) on Maniac remains one of my favorites in terms of how the steps flow. Oldskool Solo 2000 songs were also fun reminders of those short-lived 6-panel machines. Oops I Did It Again (Long Ver.) FTL, though...

I was also pleased that the engine was finally updated to 60fps. :lol

4th+ was the last DDR to not have songs taken out of it.
5th originally was planned to feature a second CD drive to put in another disc to load previous version songs into, but I guess that was discontinued.
