Beck has announced his first album of new material since 2008′s Modern Guilt. Entitled Morning Phase, it will be released in February 24th through Beck’s new label, Capitol Records.

Morning Phase “has been described as a companion piece of sorts” to Beck’s 2002 acclaimed album Sea Change. It features many of the same who played on that record (and who also currently accompany him live), specifically Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker, Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner. Morning Phase harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism.

Holy shit! I'm a huge Beck fan and kinda wrote him off last year after he released his 'sheet music' album. With a steady decline since sea change and then the recent obscurity I didn't think he would return with anything meaningful, but this is the best news that I never dared to hope for. The most I have is SACD Thriller (which was only mixed as 2ch =/ ) and a DualDisc Don Killuminati 7 Day Theory which has 5.1 audio on the DVD side. I should try that with my receiver one of these days soon actually.

Sea Change is one of the best albums of all time. Unfortunately no other thing he's done has come close to it for me. Hopefully this changes that since it sounds like it will be similar to Sea Change.

Well, this sums it up for me. I have the SA-CD and vinyl of Sea Change. It remains one of the best albums I've ever listened to, both lyrically and sonically.

Looking forward to this... but not getting super hyped just yet.
