The Netherlands has a system called DigiD and it works quite well. The ability to authenticate to any Government website or system that needs to confirm your ID with a single login is quite useful.

Yeah in Poland we have something like this for few years now.

DigiD has been around for over 21 years and is just a unification of your already existing ID that was already registered with the Dutch government (your name, BSN, and address). It's a simple authentication method so that companies and the municipality know you are who you say you are. No need to have multiple logins for everything you use and having to authenticate for every small thing you want to do. They can't track you as an individual, and you can use a VPN if you are paranoid. Is this some sort of luddite fear of technology?

Pretty much. You can't really live off the grid if your are citizen of many (more developed) countries.

Being paranoid when government always had all your data is pointless?
