Change your diet to be mostly fruits and vegetables with some whole wheat breads, noodles, meats, etc, but try to eat mostly FRESH food. Eat food that can actually go bad, before it does! Try juicing if that interests you. If you start with just that, I guarantee you that you'll start feeling better. Getting through the first few days will be difficult, but once you start to feel better and better you'll be "addicted" to remaining healthy.

This is what I've been doing for a while and it's awesome. I'm at the point where I find the mere thought of fast food completely disgusting and I think I've had like one soda in the past month.

I started this after I was told I had anxiety -- all the symptoms some of you guys are mentioning here (shortness of breath, seemingly weak heart, etc.) were prevalent, which finally just scared the last shit out of me one day and I checked myself into the ER.

The craziest thing about anxiety is this flourish of relief you feel when you find out that that's all it could be, and in some cases, proves it -- when I went to the ER feeling like I could barely breathe, when they told me they thought it was anxiety... I started breathing a lot better within seconds, and then the feeling completely went away.

I'm not saying anxiety is the answer for everyone's problems and it's always important to get checked out, but people can have it without realizing it (me) and think that they're slowly dying or something. But yeah, since eating better and throwing in exercise and nearly completely tossing out soda, I've lost some weight and I feel a lot better than I used to.

To be fair to OP (I really hope you didn't blow that $10K) medical procedures even with private insurance can be expensive. I had to pay $800 for a root canal last year up front and my insurance only paid half. I've had one day surgeries that cost $800-$1,000 when all was said and done. I'm actually avoiding the doctor as we speak to see if I can ride what I'm going through out.

^^^ oh goddamn that avatar. :lol

dang, the third degree about a dead parent. will it be accurate or some collllld shit to call out? only time will tell.

I think I can answer your question.

and we're off...

Also, LF, I shit you not... do some fuckin yoga. There's a lot of easy breathing exercises that will improve lung functionality... I imagine that would be a smart thing to do for an ex-smoker. It's also highly relaxing and should help with the weirdness you're feeling in some of your muscles.

Before I started yoga I thought it seemed lame and only something that women do, but that was a really short sighted and stupid way to look at it. Now I can't go a day without doing at least some yoga. And thanks to Youtube it's very easy to find good practice vids and such.

Going from a $60k windfall to nearly bankrupt in 3 years probably implies there's more to the story than OP is saying.

I don't think the other guy is doing it to be mean.

Buddy of mine won like $47k in the lotto. He told me you always say shit like "If I had this or that amount of money, I'd be so careful and invest" and blah-blah, but when you actually have the money it's different: you just spend it, not necessarily in any excessive or frivolous way, but, you know, you buy people shit, buy yourself some shit, eat out a few dozen times, throw a coke party or two, poof, gone.

Best of luck, OP.

Appreciate all the advice. Definitely a lot here to consider.

I think I can answer your question.

I'm wondering what it was about the OP that caused you to rummage through my post history in the first place.

The jist of it is that I was a very emotionally unstable young dude who suddenly fell into a decent bit of money, and I ended up making a lot of bad decisions.

And it's not hard to make a lot of bad decisions if you're young, stupid, emotionally unstable, grieving the loss of a parent, and had a falling out with two very good friends around the same time. I felt overwhelmed, and I overindulged in things I shouldn't have been indulging in in the first place.

I'm not defending it or anything. I don't have anyone to blame but myself for blowing that money. But it is what it is.

Not like that kind of cash would cover much anyway. That shit would go fast without insurance.

Are your parents divorced OP? Because you said you moved back in with your parents, plural, but your dad is dead.

Mother and step father. Kind of grasping at straws here.

OP, it pretty much sounds like you live a terribly unhealthy lifestyle, and even if doctors could pinpoint what was wrong with you, you'd probably feel down for a while longer. Smoker since age 14? Bad diet? Sedentary lifestyle? I'm sure there is something actually wrong with you -- probably a few things -- but until you start taking better care of yourself you're going to have a rough time improving.

Do you still smoke? I am guessing not, but just checking anyway. If I were you, I'd see a doctor to check if I was okay to exercise. As long as activity won't make it worse, it can only make it better.

The effects of smoking can take a long time to go away, and sometimes never do.

Whatever the case, I hope you start feeling better.

That's awesome man! Besides changing your diet have you done anything else, like exercising or at least going on walks?
