Beer Finally Becomes an Alcoholic Drink in Russia

7:40 in the Russian driving video has me cracking up.

Beer commercials on tv were already regulated and only aired at night time. Past the football match, you got only beer commercial

To be fair beer is pretty damn weak but wow

Depends on the beer and the person who drinks it.
A friend of mine is already pretty drunk after she drank only 2 beers, whereas I've never been drunk in my entire life (and never plan to be), even after downing 6 beers over the course of two hours.

If I am doing the math correctly, 32 Pints of Pure = ~51 bottles of 80 Proof Fifths a year. That figure is stunning. Family of five counts as five towards the average. So who is drinking the five fifths a week?

While I find Russian dash cams hilarious, I do wonder if you would see the same amount of crazy stupid shit in most other countries if they all had dash cams as well.

Then again, the reason Russian dash cams are so prevalent are because of rampant insurance fraud, so it's not a great place to start out from.

Quite old news

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14232970

Edit: It mentions this in the article above, I have no idea what's going on or when beer became alcohol. Will wait for Russia to wake up.

That article says, near the end, that the changes made by the law would take effect in 2013. So the news in this thread is that, yes, the changes that were made in that law from 2011 did indeed go into effect on New Years' Day.

At first, the Russian dashboard crash videos made me suspicious about the average IQ of the russian driver. Vast majority of the crashes can only be possible if one or more drivers are complete morons. Now, learning that beer was not considered alcohol, I can see that vast majority of russian drivers causing the accidents on the videos are probably drunk. Both ways Russia is a pathetic society for not acknowledging the cultural problem and doing something to change it. Glad I don't have to be anywhere near Russia.

Are there speed limits on the roads in the video? Also, does every car have a mounted camera, or was this the same people driving around?

All I heard from Russians online is that you get discounts on your insurance if you have dash mounted camera. Logical thinking leads to the concept that the videos may be used to prove to your insurance company you have no liability.

I met a lot of Russians while living in Brazil and they were all lovely people, loved them to death. But the real Russia is a weird and scary place. Funny through Youtube though.

Damn I wish it was acceptable to have a beer during my lunch break. America is so repressed.

Get a new job, don't blame America. I have a beer with lunch all the time. We are being taken out for lunch & beer by a manager today. I have a bottle of Rye at my desk. There are teams here with full on bars in their area.

But they have acknowledged the problem and done something? It's what the whole thread is about.

They should have done much more much earlier, though.

I never ever want/dare to step a foot in Russia, but as long as they keep uploading their shit to Youtube I love them just the way they are.

Do you work with the cast of Mad Men?

My neighbor is Russian and he drinks bottles and bottles of vodka. I don't think I've ever left his house without having at least one shot with him. Even the 17 and 18 year old girls that show up all have their own personal bottles with them. It's a bit scary.

My favorite part of that compilation video is the clip that starts at 5:30, dudes get their beater smashed by someone running a red and so they just grab their bags, hop out and walk away like they don't even give a shit.

Live Leak is gonna get a lot less interesting now. I wonder how many of those car accidents are down to drunk driving from "soft drinks". PEACE.
