I never drink and I think it's partly due to the fact that beer tastes horrible. I've sampled almost every major brand of beer sold in the U.S. and in my opinion, they're either really bitter or taste like what I can only describe as 'carbonated piss'. The first time I had a taste of beer was when I was about nine years old and my dad let me have a sip of his. It tasted horrible. Maybe that experience had a lasting psychological affect or something. Every time I watch COPS, there's some guy who's downed a six-pack or more. I just don't see how it's possible for people to drink the stuff.

And now I leave you with two parting questions..
1)Why do people keep drinking beer when it's one of the most vile brews ever to be concocted
2)Is Foster's really Australian for beer? (Is it Australian's top brand?)

Beer is generally pretty gross. The only time I've liked it was on a day that I was really thirsty after a day of athletic activity. Otherwise, I totally agree with you and would call beer the equivalent of drinking donkey piss. Pass me the wine or some liquor.

Sounds like you've never had really good beer.

I agree, but the answer is:

1) To get drunk, in a cheap way.

I have a bad gag reflex whenever I drink beer and no matter how many times people say 'you gotta get used to it' .. I've drank long enough and whenever I take a drink of it, my body literally shivers. The stuff ain't good at all. I have an easier time drinking any kind of hard liquor straight over beer.

Real Aussies can't stand Fosters - it's like Bud Lite or whatever the crap equivalent is up here in North America. I made the mistake of mentioning Fosters to an old Australian girlfriend and got laughed at severely.

Anyways, beer in general sucks. Hard liquor will get you where you're heading, faster!

I used to hate the taste of beer, but now I dont mind it at all. Maybe you guys just need to keep on drinking till you find the taste bearable.

There is good beer, but if you don't enjoy stuff like French Onion soup or a cup of coffee then you may never enjoy the taste of beer.

Yeah, same here. I'm more used to it now, but damn that shit needs some sugar or something in it.

I gave the shit up about 8 months ago. I've tolerated the taste since high school, but one day you wake up with a pounding headache and a carrot up your ass and say "what's the point?"

Fosters is export trash brand.

It's not that popular in australia... the big brews tend to be the state beers, like victoria bitter, XXXX, swan and what not (all under the same owner)... but those are mediocre to ok from most accounts.

How old are you?

And even i am moderately surprised
you just need to drink good beer.

Not meaning to sound like a CAMRA man, but christ, most of the stuff you get in bars is piss.

Well, in the UK that piss is WARM and may even contain the odd pube.

You see , for most people in England, it's like this :

You taste beer at 12 and think, CHRIST, this is disgusting! Then you go through the following :

Cider (Diamond White, strongboy)
Alcopops (Alcoholic lemonade, That sort of stuff)
Wine
Fortified items (20/20 Mad dog)
Novelty Spirit Coctails (Vodka + redbull)

Then you end up back at Beer, and discover that it tastes okay.

Then you get onto :

Actual nice tasting beer (hoegarden, that sort of thing)

And then inevitably in your older age move onto :

Rocket Fuels (Straigh Whiskey, Brandy, Meths, Turps, Listerine)

I'm on the last stage , have been for the last 6 years - i feel there is something else on the horizon, but not sure what it is....

but yes, most UK'ers have been through the full alco cycle before they hit 20....

Drink Smirnoff Ice or one of the malternative beers. The fact that beer isn't sweet is a big draw for me since i usually don't like sweet stuff.

What the fuck does that have to do with the question at hand?

And no, it isn't, hardly anyone in Australia drinks it (outside of people in Sydney). I believe the stuff you buy here in America is actually brewed in Canada to save them money. The most widespread Aussie bears I've been exposed to are XXXX and Victoria Bitter (VB).

yeah, that's true. it's brewed there under license or something.

XXXX widespread? it's pretty much an exclusive beer to Queensland. VB however is widespread.

I agree. Beer is nasty. I can handle most kinds of alcohol except for beer. It's the only drink that makes me puke. Not fun.

I never saw Fosters anywhere in Queensland, it must be made purely for export.

As for good beers? Corona. I can't stand anything else.

we sell fosters at the store i work at. and we don't export the beer, we just give license for it to be brewed in other countries.

if you like corona give Bravara a go.

Actually, the only beer I've ever liked is Kokanee cause its smooth tasting, goes down easy.
for smooth beers that go down easy my choice is Tui.

Has a predominant taste of hops in it.

of course beer tastes bad. If it tasted great, we'd all be alcoholics. You don't drink beer for the taste, just like you don't go to Vegas for the road trip.

It's hard for me to even be around people smoking weed now. The smell reminds me of all the times that I'd get incredibly paranoid and feel miserable. But I'm perfectly fine after I take a couple hoots. :)

Exactly how I feel on weed, fucking lame. I start overanlyzing everything...ugh.

I used to work at the Cannon Brewpub in Columbus, Georgia. There's nothing better than freshly brewed beer right out of the keg. Employees would get a free beer at the end of every shift.
I recommend trying beers from around the world.

Start close to home- have some Mexican and a Corona or Dos Equis.
Japanese beer is dryer and more flavorful than its American counterpart. I recommend Asahi 'Super Dry', Kirin, Or Sapporo with foods that aren't terribly spicy.
For a real treat, have Thai food and order a Singha.
Going out for curry? Have a Kingfisher.

Beer can compliment any meal. Don't be stuck in that 'beer and bar food' mentality.

Explore.

Put me on the 'Beer Sucks' bandwagon. Never could stand the shit, never could even finish a single can. Admittedly, I haven't tried many good lagers, and they're likely more suited to my tastes. Fuck it, though... I'll stick with Long Island Iced Tea.
