800px-Mummy_of_Ramesses_II_-_02.JPG

What you are seeing is the reconstructed face of Ramesses the great as a 45-year-old man (he lived to be over 90). Ramesses was perhaps the most powerful Egyptian Pharaoh, he lived over 3200 years ago, and his mummified body was found in the Royal Cache in 1881. The Royal Cache is one of the most shocking and awe-inspiring finds in history, a secret area where they placed mummies for safekeeping from looters. The amount of legendary kings and queens found within is mindblowing.

The Royal Cache:

What is wild is not just that they found the man, but that a lot of his buildings and temples are still around.

In most civilizations, everything is either burned to the ground, torn down, or simply forgotten, especially since a lot was built with wood, which doesn't last very long. But this man and his kin built such magnificent and gigantic structures that it's still here thousands of years later.

There is a huge amount of works built during his reign that still stands, including Abu Simbel.

I loved Egypt, loved Cairo, loved Luxor and was absolutely floored at the Pyramids of Giza, standing at the base looking up your brain just can't wrap itself around the fact that men built this thousands of years ago, they truly are staggering looking, even the grand gallery inside is immense... How!?! Never got to Abu Simbel but that's for next time.

Ancient Egypt must've been quite the sight back in the day

The Vikings were 1000 years ago. For us, it feels like forever ago. So much has happened.

Ramesses was 1200 years before Cesaer came to Egypt. For him, Ramesses must have seemed just as old as we view the Vikings.

3200 years ago he lived.

Can you even imagine what will survive in our world that long into the future if we add 3200 to our age? in the year 5200? even the year 2500 seems impossible to imagine.

Why is this Italian guy playing an Egyptian Pharaoh?
Not sure if you mean skin color or just his looks, but there is a lot of controversy on the skin color of the Pharaos, since we got many of their bodies, we know their DNA descends from the northen parts of egypt and that they likely were more on the fair-skinned side of egyptians.

Because what someone feels doesn’t equal to what dna science has determined.
Do you think ancient people were all isolated peace loving areas? Those Mediterranean countries were taken over by each other for thousands of years probably before the first pharaohs. Who really knows if any of them were the original settlers.
