BenQ: Ps5 will support 1440p monitors

not sure if you're trolling... but sad if true nit gonna lie.

seems fishy because of the mention of 1080i... did any recent system support interlaced modes?
Not trolling. He used a 1080p monitor to go through the resolution settings and the 2160p was greyed out - no 1440p option at all.

Honestly, that's the resolution both PS5 and Xbox will aim for.

4k/8k is just for marketing
Yup! But the PS5 will only output in 1080p or 2160p - so all the games running at 1440p is either upscaled or downscaled. Makes so much sense, ay...

when I played Apex on that TV and simply couldn't hit my targets anymore due to playing ist mostly on a 1ms monitor, I tried everything.

I also thought, "well maybe some settings increase the latency" but I had basically everything that could be seen as an image quality enhancement option off.

I even played with my DualShock 4 directly connected to the PS4 via USB which reduces lag slightly.

and I tried running it in PC mode which funnily enough INCREASED THE LATENCY over Game Mode! like how the fuck does that make sense please? wtf Samsung?

I am glad that LG and Samsung are pushing latency down more and more, and even Sony is now finally trying! they had absolutely dogshit latency for the past 5 years but their newest TVs also finally push below 20ms... when some older models in the past 5 years literally could have 40ms in game mode... like fuck me... o_O

and the 2ms I used as a figure was just an average PC Monitor figure. 2ms is a decent monitor, tho most gaming monitor go fo 1ms at 144hz+

Sorry to sound condescending but I think you are confusing response times with input lag, here are the fastest monitors on rtings:

If you look in the native res column (which means native res + max refresh rate of the monitor) you can see that the fastest they ever measured was 1.7ms, this one - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/vg279qm - the other two with input lag under 2.7ms are the https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/tuf-gaming-vg259qm and the https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g9.

In the top 25 the average seems to be over 3-4ms and most of those are 165hz/240hz. So I don't really get where the 2ms figures come from for "decent monitors". A lot of the screens under 4ms are hundreds or thousands of pounds.

What model is your monitor?

well then that's called fales advertising I guess, and no I didn't confuse it with response time.

according to their tests my Dell has 3.7ms delay.
the product page on Amazon said 1ms at 144hz I'm pretty sure... well then.

everything below 10ms and especially 5ms is absolutely A okay tho.

to be fair, the Xbox 360 for example only displayed some resolutions if it either registered that your screen supports it or if you used a VGA cable.

am example would be that on my super old first HD TV ever it detected that it supported 768p (most HD Ready branded TVs actually had a horizontal resolution of 768 pixels not 720 pixels meaning 720p would needed to be upscaled resulting in artifacting)

but on a later 1080p screen it didn't give me the 768p option at all, only 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p

we need a test on an actual 1440p screen in order to be 100% clear on this

Agreed, I asked him if he could try with a 1440p monitor. But when it displays the 2160p option but not the 1440p, it's not the best odds.

PS4 "supports" 1440p monitors, you just get a 1080p image. There's nothing to suggest that PS5 can output a native 1440p signal at this time.

It's also worth noting that many of the existing 1440p120hz+ monitors only output 120hz over displayport, with HDMI being capped at 100hz (LG 27GL850 for example).

Somy need to clear this up because right now it looks like PS5 supports QHD monitors in the exact same way that PS4 does.

that's like saying that the SNES suppots 4K TVs tho... which is simply not correct. it's more like the 4K TVs are supporting the SNES (well the ones that have the appropriate connections or an adaptor for them)

and there are more and more monitos coming out now that support either HDMi 2.1 or HDMi 2.0 and with it 120hz over HDMi

and I bet there will be more and more if them as time goes on

Ofcourse there will. But plenty of people will buy 1440p monitors that state 120hz support and will end up disappointed that either their console doesn't actually support 1440p as a native output, or that it doesn't actually support 120hz over HDMI. Right now there are significantly more 1440p monitors that are limited in this respect than there are HDMI 2/2.1 monitors that do support 120hz.

4K120hz monitors are too expensive for most people right now and so the appeal of 1440p is obvious, but it isn't as simple as some people seem to think and some of the best 1440p monitors available right now will only meet the 1440p120hz spec when used with a PC.

Rejoice 1440p Lovers Now Xbox series S/X and PS5 will support 1440p resolution output.

IGN Italy asked Sony and they said No

Yea disappointing and btw benQ removed that part.
