Even if it turns out shit we've still got that last episode as a banging end to it all. Glad man had a plan for the rest of the story and hopefully the studio pulls it off. I know Gaga drew quite a bit for some of the more recent chapters and it wasn't shit, so I'm hopeful the mad lads and ladies can do it.

inb4 people start shitting over the new episodes because Miura himself was not involved...

I personally think it's great they are doing it. Hopefully it'll live up to the premise. If not.... who cares. I won't be mad for them trying.

On a sidenote... I hope the new chapters now will be releasing with a slightly higher frequency. The 1-2 chapter per years Miura did in the past few years were a real drag. At least do like 4-6 chapters per year.

:messenger_loudly_crying: So cool that he told just one person the full story. Great that this info can still be passed on in some way.

The Japanese Game of Thrones. I'm convinced Miura didn't know how to end it, much like GRR.

Also one hell of a story. I think the GoT show runners should make a pitch to HBO to get this thing adapted

I imagine they're going to bash out the last 6 island arc chapters as quick as they can and then take their time with the next one.

As someone who only collects the deluxe volumes, this has me concerned (in a good way) for the future of my rapidly diminishing shelf space ;)

Oh that’s awesome. Pretty rare for a manga to continue without the original author.

Well, time to start reading Berserk again.

Im perfectly fine with this. If its not as good so be it.

Lots of people dont like Disney era Star Wars but I draw the line when they say that "Disney ruined Star Wars". We still have the original trilogy which is amazing. If the new stuff isn't for you so be it.

Same thing applies here. The original work will always be a classic and hopefully the new stuff is at least half as good.

Well, the imperfect nature of the situation is also acknowledged by the studio and they can only do what they can do…which sounds like isn’t half bad considering the staff worked so closely with Miura. If someone disagrees with the decision, then Berserk is over. If you’re cool with it continuing, then this is the next best thing to resurrecting Miura.

I'll take it. It's one of the greatest works of fantasy ever created imo. I'd like to see it reach an ultimate end. Hopefully with Griffith's head on a pike and guts and casca living happily ever after. I'm certain it won't end that way but I can dream.

I think it's going to be difficult for somebody to be a visionary in the same way that Miura was. Somebody that can create instead of copy. That said, it sounds like they're taking his wishes seriously. I'm glad we're getting a proper conclusion, but still I can't help but wish it was still Miura writing it. RIP.

The next chapters and tomes will naturally not be exactly what miura intended but it will be nice to see more of the world that he invented and who inspired so many people (from software among others). I will consider it like the Silmarillon, where the son of Tolkien tried to finish what his father began. I hope that they succeed in this endeavour.

Im cautiously optimistic about this. Not having the original author finish something themselves can be iffy if not disastrous, but I really want more Berserk, so I'm going to check it out. Right now I'm finished with the deluxe volume 5, so once I'm back from my vacation, I need to start 6 and eventually catch up to where things are currently.

I have a feeling this would happen, but it's always good to have official confirmation. nobody can replace Miura, but I think his team can at least do a good enough job to bring this great tale to a satisfying conclusion.

Stoked to hear. Finishing his work is honoring his will and in no way rewrites/removes what he had accomplished.

Berserk predates and reached its narrative peak about the same time George got A Game of Thrones out. If anything AOI&F is Berserk for white people.

Unsure how to feel about it going on unless Miura wishes for it to happen before he died then no fan can go against a dead man's wishes. Current art style in the last few years has been trash though not gonna lie, disappointing to see, I feel Miura wasn't head artist on it during that time.

They sound incredibly respectful and responsible about they way they go about it, so I trust it will be top tier. The team has been working with him for years and decades, I am sure they can channel him once more.

Do I unders it correctly that the next six chapters are Miura’s original story, and the new arc is original? Or is the new arch his story too?

I’m happy they are bringing it back. I just pray it’s still amazing even though Miura is no longer handling it. Let’s do this

Even though the original stuff is still there, I would rather have new the stuff be good than bad. The new Berserk being bad would be a lost opportunity. Same with Star Wars. The franchise has been wasted.

I began this journey more than 3 decades ago, and I am now once again hopeful that I will live long enough to discover how it ends...
The concerns are understandable, as Miura was one hell of an artist/story-teller, but given that he is no longer with us -may he rest in peace!-, I see no reason to object to his closest assistants doing their best to fill the immense void.
Pretty excited, to be honest. 😁

Started to read Berserk from the first volume again recently and I was wondering how long before they'd announce this.

They should have just left it alone, it often puzzles me that people feel the need to finish an authors work when for much of the time they where playing Idolm@aster and not writing beserk.
Unless they completely and utterly drop the ball, this can be seen as a win-win situation, where those who want it will read it and those who don't, won't have to. The only thing I can bring up as a comparison is Death Note season 1 and season 2. Many are satisfied with saying they've stopped watching after the first season, but the second season exists for those who wanted more content and closure. As long as it keeps the consistency of the tone and writing, that's what matters the most. Keeping the writing consistent is what Game of Thrones failed to do, but you could see that the roadmap was there, and that's why season 8 was such a huge gut punch.

As a totally individualistic and egoistic take, this is great I want to, I need to know how the story end.So I don't think it will be as good as it once was but I don't care.I would've taken the end of the saga as a novel, sure I'd lose the crazy aesthetics but at least the story would reach a conclusion.

I'm still far from catching up, which issue/volume was miura's final? I'd like to atleast keep a note for the day I ever catch up

My feelings are mixed. But I appreciate that we will at least get the rest of the story that Miura pitched in the past. It will provide some degree of closure. Hopefully Vagabond and HxH can wrap before their authors move or pass on.

They should call this new Berserk in a different way. No matter these mangaka will do their best to finish Miura's work, it will be just an interpretation. Even the best interpretation is an imperfect copy.

A new name, something like Berserk Next or similar.

Feels weird having 2 chapters released in close proximity to each other. I wonder if they're going to compress the timeline for the remainder of the story, in order to bring it to a close.
