My musical taste seems to bring me back to white frontman, guitar heavy rock and think that most albums by women are crap but what would you say is the best? There are a few gems however.

My top 3 in no particular order are:

Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
Sheryl Crow - Sheryl Crow
Janis Joplin - I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again, Mama

And why is it do you think that most women are lame at making music?

This is not quite on topic, but I'm a pianist, and I'm working on a waltz by Amy Beach, who was a successful pianist-composer of the late 19th and early 20th century. It's really fucking hard. I can barely play it, and I have huge hands...

I find the topic strangely offensive.

I second Lauryn Hill's Miseducation. Great tracks all around. Deserved its win over Ray of Light

Jagged Little Pill and Miseducation are probably the two best I can think of. Songs in A Minor and Diary are strong albums by Alicia Keys as well.

jagged little pill was largely produced/written by Glen Ballard. If you know what his work legacy... you won't respect it.

Since this topic is still-born I might as well take the opportunity to say that I hate, in music threads, when someone posts an album cover that has no discernable album or artist name. :lol (Though this one is obvious. Mods, make that a rule, ban these fucks!)

I actually prefer female vocals but I'm not too hot on knowing where to find records by the good ones. I agree with some of the recommendations, and I'm going to have to check out the rest.

This is one of my favourite albums. It's fucking awesome.

Should she really count, though? As much as I love (what I've heard of ) Billie ("Gloomy Sunday" is one of my absolute fave tunes) her tunes were all written by men.

Star Power: if we're going by that, then we'd have to disregard a lot of female artists listed in this thread. :p

Point is, she was a great, great singer and made some damn fine music.

and that's not even counting alll of the wonderful female soul vocalists, bands with female member/ male primary writers, etc.

Fever is so obviously better. The only song on Body Language that approaches Fever quality is "Chocolate," which is the shit!

Matlock wins this thread.

Star Power gets bonus points for listing Peaches. However he loses those points for not listing The Teaches of Peaches, and instead going for the not-as-good Fatherfucker. Her live act is insane. Nude titty chicks, body paint, hula hoops. Excellent stuff. Definitely, uh, empowering to women, yeah.

Oh yeah, and women do suck at writing books.

At one of her gigs, she came out in tight white jeans and half way through the song, she started "bleeding" from the crotch as the red spread out all the way across her front and legs. I'd like to send her to entertain our boys in Iraq.

White Man, please tell me you've enjoyed some sweet, sweet buttlove lately.

Blah, just realized that I duplicated a few of the albums in Star Power's post. Ah well, Kim and Liz deserve the props.

I'd keep Mary J and maybe one Ladysaw record (which one has "Under the Sycamoure Tree?"), but.. yeah... I strong case can be made against majority of those, particularly because it's more of an image driven thing, over-sexualized, and they don't write their own tunes (and yes, I'm aware all of those can be diirected towards Kylie as well, which is why I don't particularly agree with ehr being in the thread.. particularly because the of creators tatses).

Heh, Fever is seriously a f'ckin awesome album though. But I still don't get why Can't Get You Out of my Head was the biggest hit off of it in the US. Out of all the singles she released from it, that song is the least impressive. Especially compared to Come into my World and Love at First Sight, both of which blow it away.

Body Language is good (specifically Chocolate) but basically every song on Fever is good to amazing. I'd probably rank BL a tie with Light Years for second.

Those were my thoughts at first listen to, but over time Body Language has grown on me and I like it just as much as Fever. Red Blooded Woman is amaaaazing by the way!

The Body Guard Soundtrack is sooo fucking sappy. I mean, jesus. The only Whitney album worth it, in full, is her s/t IMO.

And I will forever hate Patra for butchering that Grace Jones song.
