Best Buy offering Pikmin for 50 CDN

instead of the usual 70 CDN for the first 3 days it's been out, deal ending today.

How does the store make money anyway, that's $20 of retail price. Do they accept a small loss just so you can go to their store, or do retailers normally make $20 off new game prices? I always thought it was more like $10. Anyways, must jump on the deal, as it could be at least 6 more months till the game drops to player's choice level.

They make money because Best Buy sells products other than video games. They can take a hit on the price because a rational consumer would check around the store and see what else the store has. There's a possibilty that the consumer will buy some other things with the game, like a movie or cd. So yeah, they just want people to go to their store

It's funny, in the UK we have a store called Dixons which sells lots of things other than videogames too. Rather than the prices being cheaper there though, they're more expensive than everywhere else and pretty much never have offers, because they aren't relying on selling games for their income so don't care whether they sell straight away or not. They probably will eventually.
