Damn, that's good. I don't think I'll be going anywhere near a Citroen any time soon though.

All car ads that have used these cars transform have had those die-cast Tranformers that Takara makes come out, but this one doesn't quite look like a Transformer. Is this just a parody or a real (up-coming) Transformer?

Parody, unless you happen to know of a transformer called "Disco-a-go-go-atron"? :P

might as well switch off the computer now, coolest thing I'll see all day! only thing better would've been a driver falling out the back during the transform becoming terrified and nervously reapproaching after the change back in total awe.

OK, I'm sure the CG holds up better in this compressed AVI then it probably does on actual broadcast, but regardless, the quality of that gives new hope to the potential awesomeness of the upcoming Transformers movie - yeah, I know the writer sucks, but we can always dreams! :)

Surprisingly, the CG did more than just "hold up well" in the actual broadcast & was very well done, composition, lighting, modelling and mocap were all excellent and blended with the real footage seamlessly.

I can imagine this or a scene very similar being the opening of the Transformers movie with that one Autobot (the tape deck guy) dancing. Very good commercial and great marketing tagline.

Anyone know the title/artist of that song?

Oh sh!t!

When I was in Europe, one thing I noticed was how much more creative the ads were. The Peugot ad w/ the elephant was genious and well executed. Anyone have a link to that?

It would have been better if they used the transformation sound effect

oh the legal maneuvering that would have have required.

though it could have been used to help tie into the new movie, generate some early buzz or something.

I particularly like the attention to motion detail. Specifically how the left and right most parts of the front part of the car open when the robot is going to move his arms in such a way that would cause them to hit that part of the body. Anyone else probably would have just faked it somehow, so I'm rather impressed that that was taken into account when modeling and animating the thing!

Just came across this article. Holy shit...

This stunning ad was constructed by The EmbassyVFX. The entire spot is computer generated. The environment utilizes high-res digital photos and photogrammetry and the foreground elements, including the Citroen, are 3D modeled and rendered. The car itself was scanned by Gentle Giant and then decimated by Viewpoint. The Embassy had the dubious task of cleaning up the scan data, adding details back into the model, extending the detail to include a fully articulated robot, applying motion capture data and then rendering and compositing the elements to be a cohesive photo-realistic spot.

Holy shit that was cool... hope I remember to download it for the home PC tonight....

Not exactly related but... wasn't Citroën trying to sell their cars in the US again? I heard they were making some research on the north american market among other european brands.

Heh yeah Darien's link was the robocop one.

Theembassyvfx took them all down though and put up new ones instead from the looks of it (the tank one wasn't as crisp as the transformer one, but it's still pretty hilarious).

I'll try to dig them up again later :

but the old link was - http://theembassyvfx.com/tank.html I think

nobody notice what dance the car was doing?

Man the ad worked on me. I'm going to check it out when it comes out here in March next year.

Groovy little car.
