Best "Food" city in America?

Living in SoCal, it's nice because we have a bit of everything. Asian food here is great because you can get really specific and niche. But the city doesn't have any cuisine that it is really known for, except maybe mexican food.

My vote goes to Chicago. You have the best pizza in the country. Plus the Italian Beef Sandwich is the best sandwich ever made.

LA sucks. If theres homeless everywhere and you have to spend an hour trying to find parking everywhere you go, it's not worth it for dining. Vegas is much better.

Technically you can get a little bit of everything in most large cities. I am not going to list a city but living in Texas is a nice place to be for Tex-Mex, BBQ and Chicken Fried Steak.

SoCal is great but it’s spread out. I mean you can get Portillo’s and Arepas as long as you’re willing to hop on the freeway. Downtown LA not so much: I’d never eat in China town but San Gabriel Valley is the best.

NYC or Charleston S.C. I’m tempted to include New Orleans as well but I’m not a huge fan of some of the more synonymous cuisine there.

It’s New York obviously.

I have friends who moved out and they ask for or bring back bagels and stuff like that. Not that other places aren’t good but yea, NYC is the king.

most underrated place is Vegas.

The food in Salt Lake City is terrible. Lived there for a year and could not believe how mediocre the "best restaurants in the city" were. It doesn't make any sense.

The best Thai fried rice I’ve ever had was from a food truck in Portland. Loved making the 6 hour drive down from Canada pre-pandemic. The ex-gf and I would pretty much eat nothing but food truck food the whole time there cause the quality and value are amazing.

Haven't been everywhere obviously but New Orleans, Vegas and Chicago were all delightful in my experience.

Look at me. My hometown has the best food. There is good food everywhere. Some areas specialize in certain things more than others. NYC is a common answer because there is just so much packed in there, you can't go wrong.

My opinion is vastly uninformed since there's a ton of cities I haven't visited, but I had some fuckin amazing meals in Charleston. Like, religious experience tier meals.

Houston because I absolutely love Tex-Mex and BBQ. Those are the two things that I have found to be shockingly difficult to get elsewhere.

I was obsessed with Ninfa's and El Tiempo when I lived there. Now I'm in the midwest where "upscale" Mexican restaurants either don't exist or that niche is filled with something like Chuy's (which I love but it's not quite as good).

Past that Houston has the same "up and coming" "New American" gastropub style expensive burgers and bullshit that every town of 100,000+ plus has in this country. I just can't give a single fuck about "truffle aioli" on fries anymore because I've seen it a thousand times. Yes your restaurant is staffed with waxed mustached and tattooed hipsters serving an assortment of microbrews. Never seen that before!

I've been to most major cities and have eaten my way through so many of them.

For diversity it's NYC. The Five Burroughs are un matched. Every ethnic food culture in the world is represented here at it's very best.

My personal favorite city is new Orleans though.
