Best Gameboy Color games?

Well I've found a Gameboy Color near a bus stop... and it's working, but it's kind of in bad condition, so I can't sell it. I thought maybe I could replay some classic GBC games.

What are some really good GBC games? IIRC, the Dragon Warrior III remake was pretty good, wasn't it?

You just stole some poor kid's GBC :(

Yeah I did. And I don't feel bad. I just look at the poor GBC, without a screen protector and all scratched up, and I'm like : Now you're in good hands darling.

Perfect Dark, metal gear solid, dragon warrior 3, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, and the oracle games etc.

Do they have to be strictly GBC titles?

Here are some of my recommendations:

Quest: Brian's Journey
Final Fantasy Adventure
Final Fantasy Legend III
Zeldas (Oracles / Awakening)
Pokemon TCG
Crystalis
Shadowgate / Deja Vu I & II (if you like these games)
Harvest Moon (any of them will be fine -- 3 games i think)
Megaman (or wait until the collection comes out)
MGS (as people said)
Survival Kids
Sword of Hope I & II (if you can find them!)
Wario Land 1 / 2 / 3

You can always...you know, try before you buy, if you get my drift. So don't worry!

I liked Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel (kinda a nostalgic flashback regarding gameplay) other titles worth checking out are Oracles of Seasons and Wario Land 3.

GB/GBC in no particular order:
Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening DX (skip the original B/W version)
Legend of Zelda Oracles of Ages (awesome, almost as good as Minish Cap)
Legend of Zelda Oracles of Seasons (only slightly less awesome than ^)
Dragon Warrior III
Dragon Warrior I & II
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 (either version)
Pokemon Crystal
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Shadowgate Classic,
Tetris DX
Super Mario Bros. DX
Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins
Donkey Kong 1994
Warlocked
Metroid II Return of Samus
Kid Icarus Myths & Monsters
Pokemon Pinball
Final Fantasty Legend II (or III, almost as good)
Final Fantasy Adventure
Lufia The Legend Returns
Metal Gear Solid
Harvest Moon 3
Survival Kids
Crystalis
Cannon Fodder

Depending on your preferred genres, this is a pretty comprehensive list, imho. I personally own all of these and can recommend them.

I hear great things about Mario Tennis and Shantae, as well.

Are you limiting it to just GBC games, or are you interested in old GB games, too? Because The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Metroid II: Return of Samus should not be passed up. (Link's Awakening has a DX, GBC-optimized version as well, anyway.)

Hunt down Metal Gear Solid. Definitely worth it and the best GBC game by far IMO.

Also:

-Zelda Link's Awakening DX
-Zelda Oracle games (Seasons and Ages, but IMO Link's Awakening is the best)
-Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
-Shadowgate
-Deja Vu 1&2
-Shantae

I'm not a big on RPGs, so not sure about how Dragon Warrior is.

You can get replacement screens very cheap, BTW. :)

Not to derail the thread, but does anyone else agree with me that the GBC software line-up was the worst of the Gameboy series? There were some awesome games released, but very few (color only) games that really seemed worth it compared to the B/W Gameboy and the Gameboy Advance libraries.

Oh yeah -- Warioland 2 is, I think, a pinnacle in platforming design. Warioland 3 isn't as good.

Not a single mention of Donkey Kong? Come on guys!

He asked about Gameboy Color games. If he wants B/W Gameboy game recommendations, the list will get HUGE. :)

Oh yeaaah. I need to replay Mario Land 2 again. And Wario Land 2 also. And Mario Tennis. Damn so many great games.

See
Nop. They can be GB games too. But I don't recall a lot of great GB games though.

Oh, okay.

Well, so it isn't so overwhelming, I'd recommend starting with:

-Donkey Kong (1994)
-Metal Gear Solid
-Super Mario Bros. DX
-Tetris (the original is still the best!)
-The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX

EBGames.com gets $1.99 preowned copies of Pokemon Pinball in occasionally. Using AFF15 + SAVER codes to get 15% off and free shipping, respectively.

KIRBY'S PINBALL LAND!!!

also donkey kong 94. pre-gba portable gaming is otherwise a wasteland.

All safe bets:

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Kirby's Dream Land
Kirby's Dream Land 2
Kirby's Pinball Land
Wario Blast
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
Super Mario Land 3: Warioland
Wario Land 2
Wario Land 3
RC Pro-Am
Pokemon Silver
Mario Golf (GBC)
Super Mario Bros. DX
Tetris (1989 version still holds up very well. Tetris DX is also available)

Some I've never tried but heard are good:

Donkey Kong '94
Kirby's Tilt & Tumble
Final Fantasy Legend
Final Fantasy Legend II
Final Fantasy Legend III
Metroid 2: Return of Samus (this and the FFL games are hard to find and I've heard mixed opinions on them)

That's all I can think of at the moment.

WL3 completely owned the previous game, IMO -- I loved the adventure game-like structure (vaguely like Metroid).

Five GBC carts deserving attention:

-Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (dual-mode)
-Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (GBC)
-Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
-Mario Golf (still the definitive mario golf game) (GBC)
-Pokemon TCG (some people like card fighters, but to me this is the definitive card video game)(dual-mode)

Yes, I second that donkey kong 94 motion, better then tetris it is. Not all of us enjoy sticking tetrads togethor for hours, I'd rather be finding keys to doors with a 300 second time limit...

I find it pathetic that not one other supposed "gamer" has even mentioned Toki Tori. It is an absolutely classic puzzle game that deserves to be in any GBC/A collection.
