Best Genesis games?

snacknuts

we all knew her
During the heyday of the SNES vs. Genesis console wars, I was lodged firmly on the Nintendo side of things. However, I recently acquired a working Genesis and wanted to pick up some of the classics for that system. The problem is that I don't know what the classic for the Genesis are and I figured you guys could help me out. So far I am intending to buy:

-Gunstar Heroes
-Sonic 1/2
-Vectorman
-Altered Beast
-Strider

Any other can't-miss games?

SonicMegaDrive made a thread
do some research

if you can find them, you MUST buy Thunderforce II and III. Those games are the definition of KICK ASS 16-bit shootemups

Whoa whoa man. Sonic 3 & Knuckles = the epitome (if that's the right word) of Sonic.

You should get those, Comix Zone, uhh.. ROCKET KNIGHT ADVENTURES!!

Check out this guide I made a while back. It might help you. http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=39310&highlight=genesis+guide

Anyway, my favorite Genesis games?

Dynamite Headdy
Sonic 1 and 2
Earthworm Jim
Phantasy Star 2
Contra Hard Corps
Rocket Knight Adventures
Castle of Illusion
Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III
Wonder Boy in Monster World
Musha
Gaiares
Truxton(though nostalgia may cloud my judgement)
Thunder Force III
Adventures of Batman and Robin
Streets of Rage 2
Mega Bomberman
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

To name a couple.

I recently discovered Sonic isn't such a good multi-player game.

Other than that, get Battletoads (and Streets of Rage 2).

Sonic isn't, but Sonic 2 sure is! I LOVE playing that on multiplayer. Sonic Rush should have a feature like this.

Herzog Zwei

DEFINITLY A MUST GET FOR RTS fans :D I have fond memories about using the 2 player mode with friends and having a peice of cardboard splitting the screen :lol

If you like RPG's

Phantasy Star 4 is an excellent RPG

Phantasy Star 2 is the best Genesis game ever.

Back then, perhaps, even though I perferred Shining Force, but in this day and age with its mazes and random battles, it's not very good.

My faraway favorites were B.O.B., Toejam & Earl, Comix Zone, Gunstar Heroes, Rocket Knight Adventures and Sonic & Knuckles.

Shining force 1 & 2
Toejam & Earl

These were the only genesis games I had, do they must have been the best. :D I really loved TJ & E.

Yeah, PS1-2 haven't aged well at all. Honestly, PS4's the only one I can stomach these days.

I agree. I bought PS Collection and it's not fun at all.

Honestly, I don't think many 8bit RPGs have aged well. It's pretty much just DQ3, DQ4, FF3 and Mother that's even playable for me these days.

The FF1+2 and DQ1+2 remakes were pretty good though. I'm hoping PS Trilogy holds the same pattern for PS1+2.

So many great games...

The Genesis had so many games that I passed up in favor of SNES support back in the day, but luckily I didn't wait too long to go back and try out the ones I missed. Right now it could get pricey if you intend to pick up ALL of the must-haves.

A few you might want to pick up.

Blades of Vengeance
Zero Wing
Virtua Racing
Kid Chameleon
Michael Jackson's MoonWalker
OutRun
OutRun2019
Turbo OutRun
SplatterHouse 1 and 2
Road Rash 1-3
After Burner 2
E-Swat
G-Loc
Super ThunderBlade

No one has mentioned Panorama Cotton?

Is like that old sega arcade game (the guy with a red jacket that can fly) + panzer dragon
the animation and gfx are top notch too.

All 2D Sonics (with Sonic 2 being my favorite)
Dynamite Headdy
Earthworm Jim
Contra Hard Corps
Rocket Knight Adventures and its sequel
Castle of Illusion
Shinobi III
Thunder Force III and IV
Streets of Rage 2 & 3
Tiny Toons - Buster's Hidden Treasure
Ristar
Gunstar Heroes
Alien Soldier (didn't play until recent years, though, and only via emulation...)
Ecco

...as well as a few more I'm sure I've forgotten.

I'm assuming no one mentioned it because isn't it like one of the rarest Mega Drive games ever?
