I'm looking for a simple non-resource/"feature" bloated application to view my photos and sort/organize them. What do you guys got for me?

I got photoshop for actually manipulating the image.

Yeah Picasa is a great tool for organizing collections of photos. For basic viewing though, I always make Irfanview the default viewer. Runs like a dream on even the slowest of pcs and it's free.

can't believe nobody's mentioned acdsee (which btw runs a lot faster than irfanview). never used the other programs mentioned though.

Wow, Picasa2 looks pretty nice. That said, I've been using ACDSee Classic since 1997. I tried Irfanview once, and although it was probably usable, I was just too used to the ACDSee interface to continue using it.

I'm personally looking for a good image viewing program that also supports zip files like the old ACDSee. Without actually extracting the zip file, right clicking on it will enable me to "View with ACDSee". However, I no longer have that version of ACDSee, so I'm looking for any good image viewing program that has similiar features.

For simple Picture viewing there's still nothing better than ACDSee classic, in my opinion. Excellent keyboard command for zooming in/out and file manipulations, very fast image decoding, full screen mode that works just the way you want it (you can enter/exit from it or switch to a folder thumbnail mode with a single mouse click), quick image conversion, lossless JPEG rotation, and just general user friendliness and compact form.

Picassa 2 is good for image catalogization, but compared to ACDsee classic, it's bloated and inefficient for image viewing.

The good thing about Irfanview is that it has scaling algorithms that are probably better than anything even Photoshop can offer, especially if you have to upscale the image into higher resolution.

ACDSee is great but when there are so many free alternatives that are almost just as good I just don't think it's worth the money.
