Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar

Focking awsome video...brilliant stuff!

I absolutely loved that video. I fell asleep one time and in a period of being half awake I was watching that video and slowly woke up to it. I absolutely adore the video and the song. Same thing happened to me with Underworld's Two Months Off. I remember falling asleep with my radio on Sunday night where the local station features a world famous DJ or what not and woke up to that song. I couldn't find the song or knew anyone that knew of it or heard it, till I fell asleep once during MTV2's mix what not show and woke up to that song. While the video isn't as great as Star Guitar, it is still one of my favorites.

On another note here are some of my favorites.

Smashing Pumpkins. Disarm, Stand inside your love.

Queens of the Stone Age. Go with the Flow. Awesome video to match an awesome song.

For the rest of you... Damn you all for the lack of love for Peter Gabriel videos.

Plus that Grammy thread.

BOO-YA. BITCH.

WTF, I was the sole one who said I loathed Bjork, and it wasn't anything remotely close to a diatribe. Do I have the right to think she's a nut and her music sucks? I think I do. :lol

I agree. I don't think many people in America had a chance to see this one. Mtv would only show it after 1am because of the graphic nature.

For the people who are interested ,you can download the video here . The site is in English and the other video's are also good .

This is a near impossible question, and I've seen a lot of music videos in my time. There are ones that set standards, ones that raised bars, and ones that are simply original beyond measure.

So for the sake of this thread, and I'm going to qualify this by saying that it's by no means set in stone, I'm going to pick: *drumroll*

R.E.M.'s "Imitation of Life."

It took about 16 takes to get that thing right, and coordinating everyone to be singing just the right parts at just the right moments must have a been an old-fashioned pain in the ass.

Good calls on Chemical Brothers' Star Guitar (the song fucking RULES as well) -- another good one by them is Setting Sun (that's the one with the woman splitting into multiple parts, etc. right?). Also, A-ha and Take On Me kick ass and anyone who says otherwise sucks!

buy the michel gondry, spike jonze and cunningham directors dvd set. You're in for a treat. Some of the best modern day music videos ever.

HIGHLY RECOMMENEDED

I love Massive Attack's "Protection". Beautiful song and brilliant video. I also can't get enough of Outkast's "Hey Ya", embarassingly enough...

Some contenders:

"Sledgehammer" Peter Gabriel
"And She Was" Talking Heads
"Accidents Will Happen" Elvis Costello
"Buddy Holly" Weezer
"Beverly Hillbillies" Weird Al

Insane For Sony
The lack of love for Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" in this thread is highly disturbing.
Now that you said it - it is. Praise You deserves, well, a lot more praise. The other day I have met people who simply refused to believe that was the actual video for the song, when I played the video clip for them :lol

If you're going to nominate this one, at least have the common decency to suggest the real, Dire Straits version instead. :p

I almost did-- but it's not quite a great video. A pixellated Jeb Clampett though, was genius.

Another great video, but I have no idea who directed it. Not too many peope I know here in Canada seem to even know this video exists, though. Heh, I remember seeing it all the time (any time of the day) back at my home city in Europe :p

Other favs (but still not as good as Coffee & TV :p)

Weezer - Buddy Holly (timeless)
Radiohead - Paranoid Android, Just (both of these are just as good)
Pumpkins - Thirty-Three (easily their best video), Siva (simple, old-fashioned but brilliant production that looks good almost 15 years later)
White Stripes - Fell in Love With a Girl (has this been mentioned in the thread yet? FOR SHAME!)
Foo Fighters - Big Me
Pearl Jam - Do the Evolution (too bad they didn't make this a video after George W. took office - it would've been even better)

And now that Saturnman mentions it, the that "Take on Me" video IS good. I don't care if it's cheesy 80's pop/rock. It was a cool video. One of the very few 80's videos you can still watch and not laugh at because it still somehow holds up in some way.

Someone needs to create a music video that is done completely in green ASCII.

Anyone who has seen the ASCII version of deep throat knows how awesome a video like this would be.

I'd second a lot of these, from A-ha to some of the Peter Gabriel goodness.

Two long ago favorites though are Dire Straits' "Money for Nothin"" with that Lego-like basic (but top-notch back then) computer graphics...

and "Centerfold" by the J. Geils Band. Heh.

wait morrissey made a video that wasnt just him looking extremely awkward? i must see this!

:lol

I rarely get to see videos of bands that I like. :(

As far as Tool videos go I don't see how Prison Sex stands out, I prefer "Parabola" and "Stinkfist" much more.

Radiohead has great videos.

Nine Inch Nail's "Closer" is an obvious choice.

I like A-ha's "Take On Me" a lot both as a song and video.

A Perfect Circle's "Judith" is the best straight up band performing video EVER.

"3 Libras" rocks too.

Bjork has a handful of awesome videos, "All is Full of Love" is an obvious one.

"Alarm Call" is the sexiest video EVER - I don't care if this makes me a freak.

Jane's Addiction - Mountain Song
Simple, but powerful imagery.

Bad Brains - I Against I
Dodgy FX, but seeing Bad Brains rock like pigs is classic.

Godflesh - Slavestate
Very simplistic, but the cheap psychadelia and raw footage really work well for the song.

And some more for the fancy pants crowd...

Autechre - Gantz Graf
Have never seen a jaw not drop to the floor when this one is on. Technically mindblowing (Max / MSP buggery).

Quannum - I Changed My Mind
Shynola. Great imagination, great visuals.

DJ Shadow - 6 Days
Beautifully shot. Lovely video, almost like a little story.

Daft Punk - Da Funk

And the four videos animated by Toei and then put on an animé feature with their music. :)

But I hated around the world
