Best PC cooling Solutions

Specifically CPU's & GPU's

I'm wondering what kinds of cooling solutions the people of GAF have found work best for them. Fan / Water cooling/ Fanless heat dissipator craziness? What?! Tell me! Also, is your solution louder than hell?

I could go scan PC specific forums and see what the 'pros' think, but who trusts strangers?

Me: Thermaltake silent Volcano 9 coolmod cooler: http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/volcano/rs/a1455.htm
And despite it's name this thing is far from silent, but it works pretty well unless it's really warm in the room.

Keeping good airflow in your case is the most important. Newegg actually lets you surf through their fans by CFM so I'd poke around there and read the reviews.

For my CPU, I use a Zalman CNPS7700-Cu which has a great "silent" mode.

Zalman VF700-Cu for GPU

Oops, I got my model wrong. Element is right on both counts. By the way, you will want to check your motherboard's compatability as the ALCU is quite large and can cause trouble.

that bastard is heavy, but worth every penny.

it is great in terms of cooling, but the silence is PRICELESS

Anyone have good impressions about water cooling? I tried it one time, but it was so much of a pain for such a slight difference that it wasn't worth it. That was a long time ago though.

I go SILENT only.. But it isnt really that silent. well ok still better than a few other computers I have tried. the PSU is supposedly super quiet, and it seems to be even though it has three fans, and they rotate at a slow speed, I can change the speed. Regular CPU HSF with a regular 60mm fan... Woudlnt mind replacing that entirely with one of those big ass Heatsinks that dont use a single fan. Would also like to replace the graphics card fan...

In my experience, the things that sound most are the hdds(the constant whining high freq sound) and the graphics card fan.

I'm using a Thermalright XP-90 on my P4 2.8c right now. I get 26-28 Celsius on idle (according to MBM 5) and I'm getting 40C right now running DVD Shrink.

The key is to use larger, slower fans.
They will still push a lot of air (due to size), but they will be quiet (due to speed).
You can use a Zalman Fanmate to dial the speed down.

Arctic Cooling products by far (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/)

I have the Freezer 4 and the VGA-silencer 1 (rev.2) and they work great. Took about 5/7 degrees of my CPU and 15+ of my GPU. (and that's without lapping - celcius) And more important, it's cheap!! about €25 for the CPU cooler, €17 for the GPU cooler. Easy to install, looks pretty good, cheap and works perfectly!!

sorry for the bump...

I really need help on something. I just bought this card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835888112

but it needs a 4 pin power molex connector from the power supply. Well, there are none. All available slots are connected. The other cables I have all take in 4 pin connectors, not the other way around. I looked around newegg but couldn't find any converters or anything. Any help please?

oh.. maybe its a passthrough connector? that is strange...

It's not strange. I'm just stupid. :'(

Maybe it's because I tried changing it during the night yesterday, and it's daytime now. Plenty of light and things clearer under the desk (and yeah I was too lazy to open the whole thing on my desk)...

Looked it up again. The fan connector had two sides, one of which was a male 4 pin connector that fit perfectly into an available cable.

Please forget this.

<in reference to Diablos's port>

My SFF in the living room (everything is absolutely crammed in there) stays very cool with heatpipes and a tiny, slow fan. The cooling capabilities of that thing must be staggering, especially in a large case.

Notice the all copper Thermalright SP94 right next to it- fucker needs it's own zipcode. :)

I run this heatsink in my rig ATM. What rox is that it's soooo quiet. Hell, it can't help but be with a 120mm fan spinning along at ~2400rpm.
