Best Penny I Ever Spent...

It's all your fault. :P

Before I get banned, I just want to say that I didn't mean to come off, or realized that I was coming off like such an asshole. Sorry Kobun.
OK OK. I'll let it slide this time. Next time be more thoughtful of other people's feelings! The guy worked hard on this book for a long time. Nobody wants to hear stuff like that after spending so much time, energy and emotion on a project like that.

I bought a copy at full price and I encourage anyone else who can still do so to buy it as well! We need to support books like this so the publishing industry remains open to them in the future.

The whole selling guides/books for a penny thing is all YMMV...they're SUPPOSE to destroy them, but some stores will allow you buy them. It all depends on the manager/clerk

Well, assuming that they're selling off the unsold copies instead of sending them back to the manufacturer, I'm going to bet he was already paid for the GameStop deal.

I was under the impression that when books are "sent to die" they're either remaindered and wind up on the $1.99 table at Borders, or the covers are ripped off and mailed back to the publisher, while the remains of the books are destroyed.

I have no idea how the publishing market works now, however. I made a little bank on a book I worked on, but that was literally ten years ago.

Game Over also went on clearance at EBGames......funny thing that it now goes for like $40-50 on the collector's market. Maybe game stores just aren't the best place to sell books about video games? Sounds crazy, but perhaps it's problem since they would rather use the shelf space for higher-margin items. Maybe they're (inappropriately) treated like strategy guides, where they assume that any item older than 6 months can't sell so they just dump all the inventory.

Either that or there really is no significant market for game books...

I almost made a thread about this last week. Would have grabbed our copy but we only had one and somebody else in the shop had "dibs" on it.

I actually still plan on purchasing it (for more than a penny) sometime in the future anyway

Are you serious? I got mine there for a dollar and now it's worth a ton of money? Weird...

But yeah, like border says, there doesn't seem to be a really significant market for game books, or at least there isn't one yet, though I'm convinced there will be, and we just need more high quality books out there to spark interest.

And no drivel like that Gamers essay book that just came out.

If someone could pick me up a copy I will gladly pay shipping, plus throw in a few more dollars. Like maybe three or four!

Why the hell drop it to a penny though? Surely it would sell quickly enough at $4.99 or something. Or at least .99c for god sakes.

Stupid.

For what it's worth, I bought a copy at full price when someone posted a thread about it coming out. I'm a good gaming citizen. No regrets at all. Nice work, Chris.

it is not ment to be sold at that price. going to a penny is just an indication to employees that it is time to remove the item from the shelf and destroy it which is general practice for strat guides.

I know it is not a strat guide but with out double checking I would guess it had the same first three digits in the sku
