Best place to find international flight tickets?

Looking for a website with the best deals on international flights. I tried just checking at the various airline's websites but the prices were quite different.

I'm looking for Tokyo->LA and JAL & ANA are showing prices around $3000, whereas United is showing $900. I'd rather fly a Japanese airline, but not at those prices >.<.

So ummm...anyone know a good site?

*edit* Also this is in the middle of May around E3 time. Which I hadn't thought was a popular travel time.
Thanks,

Try Singapore Air. They have relatively good prices and best in-flight service bar none.

I just checked their site, and the price is about $3000. Am I doing something wrong when searching for tickets? I mean I don't see why the US airlines would be $2000 cheaper :(

Ok, I think it's the date that's problematic.

I tried putting in some random date in Feb and the Singapore airprice was about $650. Then I changed it to mid-May and it goes up to $3000. I know early May is a big travel period in Japan with Golden Week on the 3-5th, but I'm looking at 2 weeks after that so I would expect prices to be normal by then >.<

The entire month of May is bad for travelling to and around Japan.

I'm trying to get my mother out here one last time before we move back to the states. Tickets for April are three to four hundred dollars cheaper than the same tickets in May.

Do you know if Shinkansen ticket prices also go up in May? Since I have to fly out of Tokyo it costs me ticket price + shinkansen price. Normally round-trip to Tokyo is about $350 from up here in Aomori. I'd hate to think of the total price if that went up too :(

A roundtrip originating from Japan is usually more expensive than one from NA, right? Because I went to Osaka last May, and the ticket price for ANA was only $800 or so.

No, shink ticket prices should never change. It will always be that price. You might want to consider leaving a day early and taking a bus. It's cheaper. I live in Gunma, so I'm just a three hour bus ride from Narita. Costs about four thousand yen.

Yeah bus is an option I've thought about at times but haven't used for Tokyo (I did it for Sendai once and it was pretty nice). The bus from around here costs $100 each way and is about 9-10 hours. But then even by Shinkansen it takes me 8 hours to Tokyo. 5 hours to the Shinkansen station in Hachinohe and 3 hours from there to Tokyo.

Man, you are way out in the middle of nowhere!

I would definitely go for a bus then. It's one extra hour of travel time + saving 250 dollars.

As for flights, I've only done a direct flight once with Delta (I'm from Georgia. Thirteen hour flight direct) but I didn't pay for it. We usually try to find cheaper flights with layovers. But since you're flying to LA, you might not be able to find a cheaper flight. Is it absolutely neccessary to fly in May?

Yep, "the poorest prefecture in Japan" according to stats. Where we get the same snow and cold as Hokkaido (-4C blizzard right now), yet we don't have the money to do things like clear the roads! Or even have parking spaces near the houses! Or have sturdy roofs (1 hour shoveling snow off a day since my supervisor says if I don't the "roof will most likely collapse and injure you" ^^;) Also an area that "has the most self-reliant people in Japan" so basically no one helps you. Fun fun times @.@ But yea, enough about here :p

Actually $100 one way and then $100 one way back, so extra hour travel time + $150 dollar savings. But yea, that seems like the best way to go :)

Well I was planning on heading back for E3 and my brother's b-day which is E3 week. So time-wise I don't have much flexibility. But if I really can't find a decent price I might just forget about the trip and find another time to visit home.
