Best puzzle game for NES?

If I say Solomon's key, does anyone agree with me then?

The game was awesome, and some of the levels were very difficult.

I'd agree that it's an awesome game, but I wouldn't agree that it's a puzzle game. I'd call it action-puzzle, the same category as stuff like Lolo, Boxxle, the Klonoa GBA games, Lode Runner, Lost Vikings, etc. I guess it's kinda nitpicky, but I really do think a distinction should be made, since such games are drastically different from the ones commonly considered "puzzle games."

If we're talking action-puzzle though, I totally agree with you. Solomon's Key kicks ass. Did you know the arcade version made it onto a Japan-only Tecmo classics compilation for PS2?

nope, damn that's hawt. This game drove me crazy when I was a kid, but I was happy when I finally beat it. I don't know how many times I nearly smashed my NES though.

For straight-forward puzzling, you really can't beat Tetris, either variant.

But for action-puzzling, I say Wrecking Crew.

Oh, how was Clu Clu Land? Looked cool to me, but never tried it.

Clu Clu Land I'd avoid... it's got a really strange method of control - you have to swing around poles and use the momentum to move your crab-like avatar back and forth, attempting to reveal a "picture". It's kind of annoying to play, but if you still have an NES, it's probably extremely cheap and I guess it's worth the $2 to see what it is.

My favorite puzzle games would have to be the Lolo series - some of them are really mind benders. It's a shame that the only way to find puzzles like these are in (much more watered down forms) RPGs nowadays...

I've been interested in the NES for 20 years, son.

I meant the thread I started. I certainly meant no offense. I think it's a part of gaming's past that often gets taken for granted. So it's good whenever people acknowledge the generation.

You mean, like SonicMegaDrive's thread from earlier today did?

"I'm glad I sparked some interest". Give me a fucking break.
You give yourself way too much credit.

I'm not giving myself any credit. I'm just happy we have more NES threads. Mine was started Tuesday, but it's not important. Jeez, all I'm saying is that I'm happy the NES is getting some love on this forum.

Leave me the heck alone.

For the past few years, my casual gamer friends laughed at me for keeping my NES and games. Now they're jealous. Not that they're hard to get a hold of or anything, but it's not the same as keeping your original. I put a new connector thing in mine last year, and it works like a charm now, but the games are really hard to insert all the way.

As far as traditional puzzle games go, tetris really was in a league of its own. As for puzzle games where you are actually solving a puzzle... Puzznic was probably my favorite. Fire n Ice, Solomon's Key, Lolo 1-3 were all excellent as well. Can't remember what else I played. I could never really get into Clu Clu Land, I was so bad at directing the little guy, I really should invest a good chunk of time into that game. One game is really like is Solstice, its a puzzle/adventure game, it's quite the incredible game, I haven't beaten it yet but some day I will.

BTW there needs to be an official NES topic, its long overdue

Is that picture of Solomon's key for the Nes version? I don't remember the game on the nes looking that good.

by the way put Bubble Bobble as a great puzzle game on the nes.

When I was doing a search I found out that Hudson soft did Bonk's Adventure for the Nes in Japan.
here the picture

I've been playing tons of Yoshi's Cookie lately. It's not the best on the NES, perhaps, but it holds up really well!

The Adventures of Lolo games are probably my personal favorite puzzle games ever. Fire n Ice, which was great fun but too easy, was actually a spinoff/sequel to Solomon's Key and Solomon's club but pure puzzle instead of action.

I wish there was a portable version.

Edit: Awesome!

Don't bother man, Just buy Wario Ware instead! It comes with a [pretty much] complete game of Dr. Wario. You can't change the sound, but it basically has the whole game in there.

Plus you'd be getting Wario Ware! Paper Aeroplane game! Flyswat!
