Best Silent Protagonist?

Came up in IRC the other night! Decide!

I think Ryu of Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter is the best. He is silent, but is by no means a wuss. He gets his rage on frequently. He doesnt stand for the innocent being trampled, he'll FUCK YOU THE FUCK UP

Ok, he wasn't completely silent, but he didn't exactly talk much.

I dont remember much of Crono as a character tho, did he do anything that spoke for his strength of character?
despite his not talking, i somehow managed to hate him.

i vote for the main character from suikoden II, because despite the fact that he doesn't talk (outside of your dialogue choices) he seems so well-developed, based on the personalities of those around him. i have a clear picture of his personality.

She got her ass kicked but she's still kicking, readying up to KICK MORE ASS! Thats the kind of samus they need to promote, cause thats true hardcore.

Samus. I dont know why I didnt think of it before. But there were text things from her back from Super Metroid. And Link makes sounds, but doesnt speak directly.

I think it goes down between Samus and Link.

Whoa. That Samus picture is awesome. I have to give her my vote now. Dragon Quarter was a good suggestion too. He somehow doesn't piss me off at all, which is rare for a silent character in an RPG.

Man, I'm so ordering MP2 now.

"The Free-Man is a friend of The Eli-Vance......The Free-Man is welcome here..."

(Gordan could kick both of them in the silent awesomeness field)

Definitely Adol Christine. All girls including 2 goddesses (wtf) flock to this red haired young man, and saves the world almost yearly base in his lifespan.

I would normally say that but I liked the Hero from SI's suffering and story more. ^^; I originally liked Hero2 more but that's because I played and beat II before completing I (my game froze in retarded spots so I couldn't finish until I bought the game again).
yeah, they did a good job in the original suikoden as well. but the silent protagonist in 4 was awful. partially the character design just sucked, but partially the whole thing was just kind of ridiculous in full-on 3D. a lot of it has to do with the writing, though. the game's characters never gave much reason to believe the character in 4 was really worthwhile.

the silent protagonist thing worked way better in fable than in suikoden 4, even though it's current-gen as well, because you had so much interaction. if suikoden 5 would give us the interaction goods (instead of a menu with ONE CHOICE IN IT) then maybe the silent protagonist thing could work for that series again.

hopes for suikoden 5 = very poor

Gordon Freeman. Absolutely. There's nothing quite like one man and
an army of antlions raiding a prison.

I really really really wished they had sold the rights to Blue Moon studios. ;_;
dunno. i remember bebpo saying tsukiyo ni saraba sucked, but i never got the skinny. i mean, suikoden III had a great story but it was an extremely poorly made game. still overall better than IV, though. i worry that the series is fucked forever. i only really love suikoden II, so i'll get over it, but...

I'm partial to Link myself (my avatar basically gives that away). I like unclear continuity and multiple versions of Link that make up the Hyrule myths. He's less of character and more of symbol of courage and determination--it doesn't get cooler than that IMO.
