After watching last weeks episode, I have a new respect for Butters. I realize that what is unique about South Park is that most of the characters are versions of EVERYONE. I mean this in that, everybody can identify with at least one of the characters. Everyone knew a butters, a cartman, a stan or a kyle. Everyone had that whack teacher, etc.

While Butters is definitely up there, I believe the Catatafish should be in the top five, along with Towelie.

But think of all the times Butters has made you laugh compared to Cartman. Think of how versatile Butters, or anyone, is compared to Cartman.

This should just be entitled, "Whose's your second favorite South Park character?"

To that I'd probably say Butters, though I do find Stan's Dad (Randy Marsh) to be pretty fucking funny the few times they give him the spotlight.

In terms of the supporting cast, I have a soft spot for Wendy. I like her as the intellectual foil to the show. I was definitely pleased to see her take a starring role last week after she'd largely been gone for a good season.

But uh, Cartman and Butters are both great. It's tough to really pick one favorite as at its best the show is a great ensemble.

That is UNTIL the Scott Tenorman episode. That episode marked the point where Cartman became the single greatest television character ever. Period. "The tears of the defeated, taste so sweet!"

I cried laughing for five straight minutes after that episode.

Cartman is seriously awesome... there's no denying it. One of the funniest episodes I've ever seen was the rainforest one, where he's preaching about tough love to the sloth, snake, etc. Then in the middle of the storm Kyle was like, "Holy shit, I just saw Tony Danza"... lightning flashes and you see Tony Danza sitting in the middle of the group, hahaha. Damn that's some funny stuff.
