Best USB Controller for MAME?

Hey fellahs. What's the best 6 USB button controller (preferably SF2 layout) that I can use for MAME? I've tried the Sidewinder and I can't pull off a fireball at all.

Thanks in advanced!

Maybe try one of those Saturn USB pads from Sega if you can find it cheap? (impossible if you're outside of Japan, haha)

Or you can try one of those Magic whatever adapters + Sega Saturn pad.

Is an adapter+console gamepad the only solution out there?

I'm pretty sure microsoft/logitec etc.. all have six button controllers out there that will work just fine.

I've tried Microsoft's Sidewinder and it sucks pretty bad. I guess I'll try logitech's controller.

I can recommend the the Saitek programmable range of pads like the P880

I have never ever had a PC gamepad that works as well as a console controller. I've got both an MS Sidewinder pad (old joystick-port type that you can daisy chain) and a logitech DualShock clone. They both stink. The d-pads are horribly designed. The cardinal directions are so hard to use, you usually end up hitting a diagonal by mistake. With shooters, you end up crashing into an obstacle (because you went up-left instead of straight up). With fighters, you can forget about pulling off a dragon punch, much less a fireball motion.

Then there's the analog sticks that go in random directions unless you set the dead zone insanely high.

Best bet is to get a console fighting stick and then a USB adapter for whichever console stick you get.

There are no good PC gamepads. Don't even look for one.
Adapt console pads as needed.

Now as to what kind of controller to play teh fighters with... you know what I'm going to say.

>>Man... I *really* want one of those Sega Saturn USB pads. SOA should consider a smallish print run...<<<

It doesn't really matter to me. I've used PC Magic Box for a while, and it supports Saturn pads. (as well as PS2 and DC) Oh, and I recently made the mistake of buying a Logitec Dual Shock 2 clone ("Dual Action") because it was more portable than the adaptor + controller. That thing is truly awful.
