Best version of Sonic Mega Collection?

Probably the Xbox version because it has more games and probably smaller load times. I preferred the Dual Shock 2 whenever I played it on Gamecube, so you might want to consider getting a similar converter.

Gamecube, because it was released first and has the now sad "only for" logo on it.

I would've gone with the GC version a few months ago, but sadly, the yellow stripe of shame completely deterred me. Yes, I'm one of those people.

Actually it never had the Only For sticker, so I knew it was coming long ago.

But your best bet is to get the Cube one with Sonic Adventure DX, so you get ALL the Game Gear games.

The PS2 one is trashy. There are optional borders around each game, but Sonic 2 has a glitch in the second level that screws the game up. Add to that, there are some sound problems in Sonic 1. The GameCube edition is so much better. If you want the PS2 one anyway I'm willing to dump it.

I thought that was because the games could be found on the Genesis..

And is there any problem with the Xbox version? That really might be the best bet here.

Only For.

Xbox version has more games, and has slightly better loading times. The rest of the game works equal to the Gamecube version. The PS2 version has an extra game (right?), and also has the superior D-Pad to work with. And I didn't encounter any glitches, but it does have slower loading times.

So clearly, get the Xbox version because it has more games :P

There HAS to be a DS2-Xbox converter. The GC has one in the form of a PlayCube. Is there an X-Play or something?

Yep, there's a lot of them.

I've only seen the GameCube and the Xbox versions. But from my perspective, I'd say the GameCube version. While it has less games, I remember the games being really well emulated on it. I'm considering trading in my Xbox version for the GameCube one... that I already had before...

hold up doesn't the xbox ver. have comix zone thats worth admission on its own.
Plus i've read you can play sonic and knuckles with each game.

Yep, it does have Comix Zone, but the shit I guess you have to do to get it is NOT worth it.

That's just brilliant. The console with the least amount of Sonic fans gets the best version of the game. Lame, Sega.

Thats horrible, I'm from the hood when people give me lip they get beat the fuck up down sideways interrogated intiminated. The clerk pooed his trousers and called security. other than that i plead the fifth I know my rights.

back to the matter at hand, what has to be done to unlock one of my legendary favorite genesis games.

You only need a Sonic Heroes save on your Xbox to unlock Comix Zone. With that same save you can also unlock the Ooze. It took me 2 bucks to rent Sonic heroes and get that save on my hard drive. It wasn't hard at all.

Alternatively, GameFAQs'ers are saying that playing any combination of the games for a total of 30 hours will unlock Comix Zone. Just load up let's say, Sonic 1 and leave it on the title screen for 30 hours and then save your game. If you don't mind having your system out of commission that long, that is :P

No, they are horribly wrong. Playing Sonic 1 and Sonic 3D 20 times each will unlock Blue Sphere.

Thanks for the heads up chief! Time to work my game passes magic WOOOOH!!!
Buying this game tommarow
You talking to me?

The Xbox version does not have more games. SMC+ has 20 games for $20, that's the deal.

You get:

Sonic The Hedgehog (Sega Genesis)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis)
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (Sega Genesis)
Sonic & Knuckles (Sega Genesis)
Sonic 3D Blast (Sega Genesis, Saturn)
Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball (Sega Genesis)
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Sega Genesis)
Sonic & Knuckles lock-on: Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic & Knuckles lock-on: Sonic The Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles lock-on: Blue Spheres
The Ooze (Sega Genesis)
Comix Zone (Sega Genesis)
Flicky (Sega Genesis)
Ristar (Sega Genesis)
Sonic the Hedgehog (Game Gear)
Sonic Chaos (Game Gear)
Sonic Drift (Game Gear)
Sonic Labyrinth (Game Gear)
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Game Gear)
Sonic Blast (Game Gear)

Unfortunately, they chose some of the worst choices for the Game Gear Games. Drift, Labyrinth and Blast are pretty crap. It's actually missing out on:

Sonic 2
Sonic Triple Trouble
Tails Adventure
Tails' SkyPatrol
Sonic Drift 2
Sonic Spinball

All of which are on the Sonic Adventure DX game, when unlocked.

If you want everything, get the SMC & SADX pack you can get in stores.

Wasn't there some sort of shouting about either the Xbox or the PS2 version of Sonic Mega Collection+ having a black border all around the screen? I thought I remembered someone whining about that before.

Pretty Much. It was all in English anyway, there are no Japanese Characters.

At the same time, Sonic Drift 1 was never released stateside either. Sonci Drift 2 was, but not 1 ['Sonic Drift Racing' in the UK is SD2].

SADX doesn't have manual scans though. I've heard the SMC+ do, and the Sonic Drift one states that only a Japanese manual is avaliable.

I have had the x-box version for the past week. I have never played the PS2 version or the Gamecube version, but the x-box version is great. The border that was mentioned is not an issue becuase you can toggle the border off and on with the right analogue stick. You just put the stick down like a button. So the x-box version does have the Genesis games in full screen. they added the toggle for the gamegear games. You can play them full screen or the original screen size of the game gear. It is alot like the Gameboy Advance player with it's scrren size option.

So far I have not encountered any bugs, and the loading is fast. the sound sounds as it did on the Genesis, so no fear of bad sound like the Smash Pack on the Dreamcast. Emulations are as good as the Sonic Jam emulations. I do miss the choice of choosing the original game or improved game that Sonic Jam had. The x-box verison does have a save state.

the games you cna play in this collection are:

Sonic The Hedgehog (Sega Genesis)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis)
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (Sega Genesis)
Sonic & Knuckles (Sega Genesis)
Sonic 3D Blast (Sega Genesis, Saturn)
Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball (Sega Genesis)
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Sega Genesis)
Sonic & Knuckles lock-on: Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic & Knuckles lock-on: Sonic The Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles lock-on: Blue Spheres
The Ooze (Sega Genesis)
Comix Zone (Sega Genesis)
Flicky (Sega Genesis)
Ristar (Sega Genesis)
Sonic the Hedgehog (Game Gear)
Sonic Chaos (Game Gear)
Sonic Drift (Game Gear)
Sonic Labyrinth (Game Gear)
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Game Gear)
