Best way to play Quake on XP?

Believe it or not, I never played the original Quake. But after spending time with the N64 version, I'm dying to play this glorious game the way it was intended. Or better. The question is, how?

I've heard of fuhquake. I've heard of winquake. Which one's my best bet? Will one or both allow me to play the official mission packs?

I'm not DOS-savvy at all, so I also need something that's fairly automated. And so far, I haven't understood a thing I've read at some of the Quake forums - which, oddly enough, hardly talk about winquake or fuhquake at all.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, guys. I got Tenebrae working. But I'm having trouble getting my mission pack, Scourge of Armagon, working. Would love to play this using the Tenebrae graphics, too.

Any tips for starting up mission packs with Quake?

If you want some of the Quake(world)-feel but long for better graphics I'd suggest the promode mod to Quake3. Good stuff.

A post on PlanetQuake.com says Qrack smokes everything, including Tenebrae. Anybody have experience with Qrack? And I still can't get Scourge of Armagon to run in any way, shape, or form. :)

Ah, yes. Found what I needed. Both Quake and SoA are running great, using WinQuake, GLQuake, and Tenebrae. Now if only I could adjust the resolution on Tenebrae in SoA...

I'll check out some of the other engines, too. Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

Edit: OK, I've tried Dark Places and the Qrack engine, too. All very nice. Not sure which I prefer, really. Though Tenebrae is the only one for which I can find the progs to run the mission packs.

Anyway, hot damn, Quake is back, and better than ever. (Yes, original Quake is the best of the series. :P)
