Best way to transfer all data from one hard drive to another?

Hail to the KING baby
So my 30 GB got screwed up and Dell is sending me another. The thing is that it actually works right now (though at a capacity of 27.9 rather than 30), so I'm wondering what's the best (and hopefully not too expensive) way to copy all my stuff from this HD so that I can just load it up onto the new one as if nothing ever happened?

30Gb of info should fit onto 40 CDs.....:)

I would get myself an extra IDE cable and set them both up simultaneously, transfer the data and then remove the faulty one.

The fastest way to transfer is direct IDE connection. As said before, power down, pop in the other HD, boot up, copy stuff over, power down, then put the HDs how you really need it.

Oh, make sure your other HD is set up to be how it will be afterwards before doing this. Don't copy stuff only to reformat it all.

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
what about copying your data to an external USB HD? Isn't it simpler than doing the IDE thing or whatever?
