so I was pretty into this anime quite some time ago

I think I stopped watching at eps 150.

I've recently decided to get back into it. I've forgot a lot of it so I think I'm gonna restart from eps 1.

what's the best way to catch it all? is Hulu my best bet? do they have every eps? im guessing its not on Amazon Prime or Netflix Instant in any region

Blindfolded.

Just kidding. I've never watched it, but crunchyroll might be a good place to look if you want to stream it.

Are there filler arcs you can skip here, like in Bleach?

probably but i enjoyed every single episode i watched

granted i only saw a little over 100 eps

maybe 150

i don't really remb tbh but the anime is pretty amazing

i dont know why i ever stopped watching it

OP doesn't have a lot of fillers like Bleach or Naruto, but it has a ton of flashbacks, they know how to waste time without having to make filler eps like Bleach, the Thriller Bark arc is down right pathetic get ready to watch episodes that only have like 7-9mins of new content because they have ton recap from the previous episodes..

how is it with no premium membership

how much is the premium membership

can i watch it on my ps3 or wii u with premium membership

No ads with premium, they're missing episodes 326-516 but have the rest. Yes you can watch it on ps3 but you have to have premium, don't know about wii u. You can get a 14 day trial by signing up.

@kiblar yeah there are filler arcs, but not all that much. You can look up which arcs are skippable.

I don't think the back episodes are available to non-paying members.

Premium is $60/yr or $7/month.

Yes to PS3, no to Wii U. Though an app may be coming.

I stopped at episode 80 ish one or two months back. I love the show but I couldn't be arsed to catch all the way up to the current episode.

might as well tell him to get ready for slower episodes once he gets to around the middle of water 7 since that is when they started doing an episode per manga chapter. at least one piece has more content in a manga chapter than most other weekly mangas but it's still not enough to fill an entire episode.

If you prefer dubbed like me the funimation subscription is nice.$7 a month and they have everything they have dubbed so far.

It doesn't get bad until the Thriller Bark Arc though. The Water 7/Enies Lobby arc is arguably the best the show has ever been (and the manga for that matter).

Edit: OP just watch it subbed. I would never recommend watching a dubbed anime until all of it is completely finished.

i definitely saw the drop in quality though. to be honest i think the show dropped in quality once it went HD which was around water 7.

Is he Stretch Armstrong in a stupid hat? What do the plots revolve around? Can he reach a gobblet of wine that is too far away?

Seriously, I saw a promo for this tonight on CN.

He's a pirate boy that goes on adventures with his crew and hopes to be pirate king and find the ultimate treasure, one piece. He once ate a devil's fruit that gives people different powers but makes them not be able to swim. Thats why he's able to stretch his body. Its pretty much your standard shonen manga but its enjoyable if youre into the genre.

It starts with him wanting to become King of the Pirates and assembling a crew. They travel to the Grand Line (an ocean spanning the world around the equator) and have adventures, fight for justice etc. (typical shounen stuff), it starts small and becomes bigger over time, there's an overarching story arc on a global level although that's not obvious at first.
The member's of the crew all have a tragic past that's explored in flashbacks, they are great characters and almost become a family. The entire series is populated with interesting recurring characters, it's fucking awesome and without a doubt the best of the big shounen series.

Can he reach a gobblet of wine that is too far away?
Yes, except he doesn't drink wine, he's more likely to steal food from your plate. ;)

Filler in One Piece is actually pretty cool, because they just throw in more island they visited on their journey in between. They are easily skippable, if you don't like them. In Naruto, some of the fillers weirdly had some nice character development.

Until Thriller Bark: crunchyroll should have all episodes in a good quality.
During/After Thriller Bark: Don't bother, anime went to shit. Shitty pacing and shitty animation.

Better just load up a playlist of the OST and rock the manga from that point on :/

My impression as well. It's also funny to go back and see how much more detailed the background of the SD episodes is vs most HD ones. I bet the production costs increased with the jump to HD, but the budget didn't actualyl get any higher >.<

read the manga and watch the anime for some of the fight sequences. the anime makes the DBZ anime look briskly paced.

This is my game plan. I finished watching the anime past Enies Lobby, and I decided to simply stick to the manga after that arc. It takes some time to adjust to Oda's art, but I'm at Sabaody now, and I am really loving the hell out of the manga.

It also doesn't hurt that I'm blasting One Piece OST as I read through the story. I am surprised at the density of each chapter.

The one filler arc I enjoyed from Naruto was the first arc during the two-year stretch of Filler Hell. The arc that focused on Hinata.

honestly it's not the art that's the issue, it's Oda's terrible paneling. he can be so good yet so bad at conveying action scenes in a battle manga.

Yeah, you're right on that front. Art was the wrong word, paneling is a superior word for my grievance for One Piece. Even with some time with the manga, it can take longer than it should to realize who is saying what.

Go to onepieceofficial.com and watch it all there or hulu.com seeing as how opieceofficial is using embedded hulu videos. The dub is pretty good. Crunchyroll is fine, but it has more commercials iirc.

The anime has been a complete husk of a show for the past...God I don't know. Maybe even 7 years at this point?

I'd say watch until you finish Skypea and just read it out from there.

I feel the CP9 Saga was handled well enough in the show. Yeah, it started to stretch the material out by that point, but it doesn't enter Thriller Bark territory.

Yup, the anime isn't terrible or anything, but after thriller bark the pace slows down significantly since they start covering only one chapter per episode, sometimes not even that. Makes it feel so damn slow. I'd say reading the manga after reaching that point would be better (which should be done regardless since the Manga is way, way better than the anime)

Though they are filler, I suggest not skipping 196-206. As will a lot of people.

I am catching up on Naruto after like a 4 years hiatus, stopped watching Naruto when filler hell hit and then forgot about the series until I subscribed to crunchyroll a few months back, catching up with naruto after all these years has been the best way to watch this anime for me, just thinking about those long waits when fillers hit and being able to skip them and keep watching canon episodes is awesome, I am a few episodes away to the latest canon one, I was thinking into tackling this monster of anime after catching up with Naruto.

Is this a fools errant getting this late into this anime? I plan to skip fillers and watch it at my own pace, I am in no rush, if the story is as good as people say I can watch for years no prob.

Seriously, I saw a promo for this tonight on CN.

Kid wants to get the title "king of the pirates" so it involves a lot of adventures, strange places etc.

Plot can involve (minor general story spoiler, not going into detail)
recruiting members, getting ships, saving friends from their pasts, saving cities/countries, going up against the world government and can involve topics like conspiracies, genocide, religious oppression/brainwashing, slavery, racism, elitism, revolution.

The beginning is mostly lighthearted (with some sad moments sprinkled in between here and there)

If you can make it through Naruto, you can make it through One Piece. I'm catching up on onepiece right now and I'm getting a little discouraged to hear that the anime doesn't work as well later on.

Not at all. Also, if you were able to go through Naruto, you should have no problems going through One Piece (I keep on stopping when trying to catch up on Naruto) Having so many episodes to watch is a big plus point to this series, and some of the pacing issues that occur once in a while in the show, aren't really felt when you have a bunch of episodes to watch together.

Was just giving a heads up on those specific fillers there (196-206), because most fans of the show will tell you, if you were to watch the show without a filler guide, you won't even realize that those episodes are fillers. That arc was woven into the story very well, and is a fun one (to most people).

There's never a bad time to get into a big series. You don't need to catch up quickly so just watch it at your own pace. Having hundreds of episodes is great because you can watch as many or as little as you want. You aren't stuck to having one a week.

Wait about 30 years for the series to finish and then wait for the Kai version they do that will fix all of the pacing issues they are currently having.

I binge watched episodes 1-525 (caught up to airing) a while back. Took me like a couple months of watching nothing else but One Piece.

There were certainly moments of immense payoff scattered about, and the character interaction and world building especially are clearly superior to every other long-running Shonen.

That said, the best way to watch One Piece, is probably to not watch One Piece. I would love to have my roughly 7 days of total time watching that show back. Not worth it.

Nope, I got into last year (seriously, I'd read it on and off again for years) and watched it all in the span of a month. Totally worth it, especially if you give the manga a shot after you catch up on the anime. It's way better than Naruto, since Oda is actually a good writer.

Well one piece it is then, really looking forward to it, these long and ambitious stories are right up my alley, the fact that most of the people say it's way better than Naruto and better animated too only sweetens the deal, I'll post my impressions like in two years when I catch up!

Anime becomes rubbish aroundabout Enies Lobby (260? 280?) by the way

They got too close to the manga and had these amazingly long recaps to cut the amount of new content each episode.

once the arc ended, instead of doing the smart thing and animating the cover stories and having the odd filler arc, they instead inserted filler inside canon events, which was horrible.

Best way? Read the manga.
You get details and story elements not featured in the anime.

It's also gotten to the point where Toei has stopped caring. They know Japanese kids are watching no matter what so they don't have to try.
