Until Thriller Bark: crunchyroll should have all episodes in a good quality.
During/After Thriller Bark: Don't bother, anime went to shit. Shitty pacing and shitty animation.

KHlover is mostly correct. He forgot to mention the dialogue managed to drop in quality as well.

One Piece was the sort of anime I was interested in sharing with people up until after Sabody which is the mini arc immediately after Thriller Bark.

I hate what it has become and I have tried watching future episodes but the show has gotten worse with each passing month. To illustrate my point imagine one epsiode preSabody expanded over 3 or even 4 episodes. That's the problem plaguing One Piece right now.

Water 7/Eines Lobby/CP9 saga is still worth watching because you can just fast forward through the 5 minute recaps. The anime still isn't too badly paced at that point because of the long ass recaps that you can skip when it isn't live TV. However, after that point, they reduced the recap lengths and just added a ton of filler in the middle of the episode ;p. I stopped watching during Fishman Island arc because of the horrible pacing, such a shame. Someone started a project called One Pace to re-edit the Fishman Island arc, looks like they done more than I thought. Give it a try (just google it, not sure if allowed to link). They've done all the New World arcs (all of Fishman in one torrent) and the Marineford arc.

As a guy who is going to start watching this which zero knowledge, can I get detailed instructions? like: "watch from this episode to this episode normally then look for the edited versions starting from this till this"
I really want to avoid fillers at all cost.

Go to onepieceofficial.com and watch it all there or hulu.com seeing as how opieceofficial is using embedded hulu videos. The dub is pretty good. Crunchyroll is fine, but it has more commercials iirc.

onepieceofficial and Hulu are good, but still missing a big chunk of episodes. They been steadily closing it, but the majority of
Thriller Bark
is still missing.

But I guess they might have closed it entirely by the time the OP catches up, unless he plans on binge watching.

around what eps do most people believe the show stops to drop off?

also i prefer subd tbh

edit: around when does "thriller bark" start?

If the manga isn't a choice, then I recommend watching by arc. If an arc is still going on, stop and wait.

Still, the manga is preferable. Especially now since Toei can never get Oda's artwork right. Also cover stories and SBS.

Huh, I just stopped watching One Piece in the middle of Impel Down. Just kept missing the simulcasts and eventually just stopped for no particular reason. Funny how I'm seeing posts here saying that's about when it started to dip in quality.

Funny story. In the early days when the fansubs were the only way to watch One Piece I showed my sister up to Loguetown (around Episode 50), she liked it, but wasn't too enthusiastic about seeing more. And then about a couple years ago when she moved back in with me, she started watching the Dub dvds. She stopped at Usopp's introduction saying she hated the character and just couldn't tolerate him enough to continue.

Recently, I've been ripping all my One Piece dvds to my HTPC running XBMC. After a little bit of nagging and the allure of convenience with no dvds to fumble with, she decided to give it another try and then everything just clicked for her one she pushed through. It helped that I ripped the commentaries as well and they're a blast to listen to, she definitely credits those for helping her get into the show more especially listening to Sonny Strait discuss Usopp.

We're now just at the tail end of Water 7 (a few episodes behind Toonami) and it's one of her favorite shows. I teased her a little bit when Usopp "leaves" since she cried and actually cares about him now.

So while it's probably not the best way, the dvds with the commentaries really are a great way to go.

I'd read the manga if I where marathoning it

seeing as it is better paced, consistent and improving drawings, and a overall more detailed experience

reading per volumes would feel more relaxing and less stressful

hehe i remember hating usopp at first and hated the thought of him being in the crew and then he great to be one of my fav characters.

I bought all the DVD collections to watch the show. Didn't buy the newest collection because its episodes made for HD on dvd. Screw that.

I really want to avoid fillers at all cost.

You can watch episodes 1-312 as normal off Hulu, OnePieceOfficial, Crunchyroll, etc. Cruncyroll Premium account has 0 commercials. Crunchyroll has everything up to episode 325 (But stop at episode 312!!!). When you get to the Water 7 arc (listed at Crunchyroll), be prepared to fast forward past the 5 minute recaps in the episodes around episode 260+ lol.

*** for Episodes 1-312 you can skip these filler arcs:
Skip episodes 54-60 and half of episode 61!!!!!!! (very bad filler)
Skip 136-143, OMG goat island is horrible.
196-206 is Technically filler but it is Very good filler, worth a watch!
220-224 is filler but is decent (based off a video game).
225 is filler, but you need to watch episode 226 so might as well watch 225.
279-283 are recap episodes that you can skip, has shorts with them that are amusing
291-292, 303 are fillers as Detective Boss Luffy in feudal times. more comedy, not integrated into story at all
Now stop at episode at 312 and go to Onepace.

Once you are done with that, go to onepace.net and start with Whitebeard Arc episode 1 until episode 24. This isn't the full Whitebeard Arc story (the One Pace people haven't finished these episodes). This is a subpart of the overall Whitebeard story and is post Eines Lobby episode 313-325 and "Thriller Bark arc" episodes 326-374.

Now, you need to watch episodes 375-516. Not sure what websites has these episodes? Also, there are fillers, but I don't feel like going through them all right now. Eventually, One Pace will do more of these episodes as part of the "Whitebeard War saga".
Filler:
406-407 More Detective Boss Luffy episodes
426-429 really crappy filler arc
457-458 recap episodes

After episode 516, go to back to One pace website and watch New World Episodes 1-24 (all one torrent - it consists of Shabody and Fishman Island episode 517-573). Then watch New World episodes 25-46 (all individual downloads as the Punk Hazard arc eps 574-628). Finally, watch Dresorra episodes 1-11 (ep 625-651) and you will be caught up with the latest episode and new ones will be added!

Hope this makes sense. The pacing problems become really bad around Marineford/Whitebeard War arc, hence someone coming up with One Pace.

Oh man. I may watch the anime now, once I catch up to Fisherman Saga. I wish they edited the Summit War Saga. Guess I'll switch to One Pace once I catch up in the manga.

Best way to watch it? Read it.

read the manga and watch the anime for some of the fight sequences. the anime makes the DBZ anime look briskly paced.

This is my game plan. I finished watching the anime past Enies Lobby, and I decided to simply stick to the manga after that arc. It takes some time to adjust to Oda's art, but I'm at Sabaody now, and I am really loving the hell out of the manga.

It also doesn't hurt that I'm blasting One Piece OST as I read through the story. I am surprised at the density of each chapter.

The one filler arc I enjoyed from Naruto was the first arc during the two-year stretch of Filler Hell. The arc that focused on Hinata.

Best way? Read the manga.
You get details and story elements not featured in the anime.

It's also gotten to the point where Toei has stopped caring. They know Japanese kids are watching no matter what so they don't have to try.

read the manga its a masterpiece.

The best way to watch One Piece is to read One Piece.

The manga is really fucking incredible.

If the manga isn't a choice, then I recommend watching by arc. If an arc is still going on, stop and wait.

these people speak the truth. the manga is a masterpiece of fiction.

as of 2013 the series had over 345 million volumes in circulation worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history.

Opinions are all over the place there's far too much nostalgia mixed with crazy talk, as you said you enjoy the show a lot so it's best to continue until you feel your not, chance are your going to continue enjoying the anime until you run out of episode to watch then switch the manga to get your one piece fix.

Until Thriller Bark: crunchyroll should have all episodes in a good quality.
During/After Thriller Bark: Don't bother, anime went to shit. Shitty pacing and shitty animation.

The animation actually did the opposite and shot up 1/4 way through thriller bark thanks to number of factors like the animators being given free rein to further develop there style & skills which resulted in animators like kenji kuroyanagi going from a b tier animator to a super elite, veteran animator naotoshi shida to discover his new fabulous style, the birth of a super elite rookie animator by the name of ryo onishi, the rebirth of yoshikazu tomita, special effects king Shuichi ito also there a ton of episode by amazing animation directors like katsumi ishizuka, noaki tate and eisaku inoue(also they started to employ more freelance animator like Ken'ichi Fujisawa.

in fact the animation for every arc after enis lobby is better animated then enis lobby thanks to animators becoming more skilled, new additional great young talents and a bigger budget allowing them to go all out in there given scene.
