Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
Three weeks after being defeated by Carrie Underwood in the finals of "American Idol," Bo Bice says he's happy he lost.

"People ask me, 'What were you thinking while you stood there waiting for them to announce the winner?'" Bice says in the issue of Rolling Stone magazine on newsstands Friday.

The answer?

"Please, God, don't let me win this thing."

Bice claims he never wanted the Idol crown to tarnish his Southern rock rep.

"The label 'American Idol' was not for me. I'm not a pop person. It would have been harder to play my kind of music if I had won," says the 29-year-old Alabama native.

In the May 25 finale, the long-haired rocker failed to bring in as many votes as Underwood, who won over audiences with her country charm. But runners-up on the Fox show have done well in the past most notably Clay Aiken.

This fall, Bice will record an album with producer Clive Davis, due out by year's end. He hopes to persuade Davis to include a few of his own tunes.

"I would rather put out an album of my own songs, and if it flops, it flops."

After all, Bice feels like he's playing with house money at this point.

"I just came in (to 'American Idol') being myself," he says. "And for some crazy reason, that's what people were wanting. Which is why I am truly the guy who's the most freaked out about everything that's happened

Eh, I don't beleive it, but you cant blame the guy for trying to save face. He lost to a GIRL! Pffft!

Well on the one hand by losing he isn't tied to the very restrictive(I keep hearing) license that winners have to deal with.

He should have dropped out if it was sooooo bd for him....and let tohers get farther as "pop stars"

Fuck Bo Bice. If he doesn't think singing the sappy group numbers and touring this summer with the AI jamboree will hurt his cool rockstar rep, he's braindead from coke already.

Kind of a natural reaction to losing something most people figured he had won. All the swag and money you get from winning 'Idol' makes you kind of stupid for not wanting to win it. You are right there, might as well take it.

The music industry is in such shambles that having "cred" doesn't mean much anyways. Most acts sell out so fast they can't even establish it. Regardless of what Bice might do, he will always be "that American Idol" guy. Look at Kelly Clarkson .. she is about as successful as you can be, and is still viewed as an AI performer. Does she even have an identity?

She's just the AI girl. She tried to sex up her image to get away from being that, but it didn't work at all.

"I'm not a pop person."

Give me a fucking break! If you're not a "pop person," don't enter the world's biggest pop-singer competition!

I can agree with that statement. think about, what better exposure can there be then American Idol? If you lose, you're not bound by some crazy contract and have more options available to you. This guy definately loves music and you can tell he's not a pop guy by any stretch of the word. Anyway, I hope he gets what he's after.

Rock and Roll bitches!! :)

29???

I haven't watched Idol in a couple of years, but I thought the upper age limit was 24 or something? I remember some guy got kicked off for lying about his age to get under the limit?

Yeah they increased the age limit for this season.

And regarding Bo Bice, I wonder how he feels about touring with a bunch of these pop stars all over the country for a year. :lol
