Big Revolution Info "Leak"... oooooh boy

John Harker said:
Was this posted anywhere?
I didn't see it.

"MoSys didn't reveal how much RAM would be going into each Revolution console - but in an unrelated story also doing the rounds about Revolution today, Chinese website Unika.com claims to have seen an actual specification for the hardware.

According to the site, the console will boast four 2.5Ghz IBM G5 Custom cores, with 128KB of level 1 cache and a 512KB shared level 2 cache, while the graphics will be powered by a dual core ATI RN520 chipset, with 1MB of on-board eDRAM for the frame buffer."

Sourcey

Hows that stack it up vs 360?

probably bullshit, but four cores would be on a par with X360, dual core ATI 520 would be tasty, 1MB eDRam is bollocks for frame buffer, maybe they mistyped and meant 10MB.

Nothing about main RAM though, which is important too.

anyways, he can keep the rumor up for all i care, i just don't want my name anywhere near it.

why the hell is your username your real name on here? aren't you afraid of getting shit canned by your employer considering all the info you give out. :lol

unless the info you give out has been bogus from the beginning.

Does that jive with what anyones been hearing, or is it just rehashed nonesense?

It should be noted that while IGNCube dismissed Aries mumblings, they did not dismiss Brooke Burke - in fact, they pointed us to him.

Interesting considering it was Burke that stated he has figured out that the Revolution will be stereoscopic.

IGNCube responded by saying 'wait till E3.'

Only about a week left.

wtf??
http://cube.ign.com/articles/611/611909p1.html
A question relating to that was asked in a recent DS survey, which there's a thread for here. Maybe that will decide the 'strictness' of it as IGN puts it.

The stance Square Enix takes on the new networking plan in relation to Revolution is the most intriguing. "What increased our interest further," states Wada regarding the networking plan, "is that the next step is already being prepared for Revolution." Nintendo's networking plan is, according to Wada, "not just a portable, not just a console -- it's exactly what we wanted in that it's the birth of a completely new platform."

Wada finishes off on the note of support from Square Enix: "From here on, we'll have to challenge ourselves with content in response to what Nintendo offers. We would like to give strong support."
That's the most interesting thing I've read in a while.

The article has been fixed, it's 16MB of eDRAM.

I guess that means if you know the name attached to someone's DS, you can play them. Which would be fine with me, I could just play GAFfers and ignore the retards anyway.

If, however, you somehow have to have met them in real life and your DS's then share info that'll let you play online...any game going with that would be ridiculous. Right now I'd be able to play with precisely one other person. Who lives in offline wireless distance anyway.

You know... this jives pretty well with all Aries was saying about the online plans for Revolution... how it was something really advanced and comprehensive, and leaves Live behind in the dust...

And he also said SE was developing an RPG for Revolution.

Maybe this guy was really right. Who knows, but it seems more and more information backs him up than disproves anything.

It's great to hear about potentially strong support from SquareEnix. I really hope Nintendo isn't too restrictive about their online service, that might ruin the whole thing.

Johnny.. can you confirm any of these?

[NDS] Super Wario Bros
[NDS] Luigi Mansion DS
[NDS] Pokemon Action
[NDS] Donkey Kong
[NGC] Jungle Beat 2

I don't see why everyone took Matt's word that Aries was fake as fact. They all hate the bastard here, but agree with him when he says Aries is BSing? Right. Ok.

Not only that, but Aries knew Matt was going to call him out as a BSer in the mailbag. He said SE is really into Nintendo's online plan, and that they're developing games for the Rev and DS. He also said to just wait until E3 to find out for sure if he was full of it or not.

I'm not gonna believe Aries, but I'm also not gonna throw in the towel on him yet. If at some point there's a Vectorman game shown off, and someone makes a refrence to the movie "The Game" then Matt just got his ass lopped off and handed to him on a silver platter.

When is E3 starting again? The 15th? Or is it the 17th?

Nintendo's conference is on the 17th. I think Sony conference is on the sameday.

Duh...it's a ploy. Lowered expectations (LOZ:WW2 @ E3 2004) leads to a bigger surprize (new LOZ *not* WW2)...same thing here, Nintendo's been doing this strategy for a while. I think Nintendo is realizing the importance of these events for their own image and instead of doing what people expected (Mr. Iwata complaining about "an industry in crisis" GDC 2004) they're doing more possitive branding (Mr. Iwata doing a 180 at GDC 2005 talking optimistically about new NDS software, internet plans and possitive Revolution details). Alot of people are still expecting Revolution to be:
-gimmicky
-simplistic
-for kids
-pastel colored
-console shaped like a toy
-fisher price controller
-less powerful than the competition
-no online
-no support

However, with Aries (a guy we don't know) getting our hopes with his info, then saying Matt would comment on it, then Matt (who we do know) acting like everyone was just waiting for his responce pretty much says it was bum info...hmmm...It's a game to them. Matt pretty much gave a hint saying that no one at NOA knows what Revolution is about (WRONG!) and won't know 'til just before the show (BULLSH!T!)...come on, no one's that stupid. If Matt was dropping hints a week before E3 2004 (about the new Zelda & Nintendo's conference being awesome) then certainly Reggie, George & Perrin know what's going on with Revolution!

Not saying that Nintendo's going to have a killer show, but I expect optimism, possitivness, confidence all forming together making a pre-show conference just as good as last years, if not better. They'll leave secrets still, some may be disappointed if it's anything less than a Revolution blow-out, but that leaves us hangin' for SpaceWorld, which they're obviously gonna do this year just for Revolution.

-Zelda, PokeMon XD, Fire Emblem, Killer 7, new Sonic & more GCN games (some surprizes too)
-George takes potshots at MS for not finnishing this generation before jumping to the next, giving GCN the time to put the X-BOX in last place and going into next generation more smoothly thanks to GCN games being playable on Revolution
-Possible pricedrop and/or GCN redesign in time for Zelda launch
-New totally wireless & media ready GBA and plans for it (it's mentioned that this will be a future VMU for Revolution)
-NDS software & full unveiling of online plan (it's noted that this free "no Line" network will work with NDS *and* the new GBA & Revolution)
-Potshots at PSP for being overpriced with bloated power (sales chart between Nintendogs vs all other PSP software)...oh yeah, PokeMon DS...Mario Kart DS...Metroid DS...Animal Crossing DS...new Mana game...ALL ONLINE!
-Climactic build-up to Revolution with developer interveiws...Mr. Wada, Mr Kojima, Mr Mikami & Mr. Itagaki notable mentions
-Shell design shown, it's a serious machine, with serious specs, *some* features revealed (NO Controller shown though)
-Reel of Revolution tech demo's shown
-Reggie takes potshots at 360 saying Revolution will not only offer new ways to game, but will also be more powerful
-Nintendo's interactive movie ventures talked about, followed by another reel of game footage from GBA, GCN, NDS & Revolution...you think the show is over, but it's not...
-Surprize game: Mario Revolution being played in real-time...Mr. Miyamoto bursts out, dressed as Mario and plays with the new dual fisted gyro motion controllers breifly (without actually showing them)
-"Wait 'til SpaceWorld" at the end of the conference for a full unveiling of Revolution & it's games

Hey thanks...don't get your hopes up though...

Anyways...I think, really, it depends on how much Sony shows. And Sony may show alot on PS3 in order to derail 360 hype...so that's why I think Nintendo will show as much as they can so as to not be left out. They may have said before that it won't be Revolution's "coming out party" or that they may not reveal much, but they might as well if they've got people's attention, otherwise they may be overlooked by the mainstream/press regardless of Zelda & NDS online. Plus they can always show alot without showing too much...plenty can be saved for SpaceWorld, if not hardware, then software.

I seriously think the deck will be shown, specs will be talked about, it's drive/format revealed, it's online features and some other features as well...but the games & the controller interface will be teased about and left in the dark to show later. I really think my pre-show layout is very realistic without revealing too much and still remaining exciting.

It's worth mentioning that if they unveil both a GBA & GCN redesign as well as the Revolution and are all smooth slick designs it could help reverse their image in two key ways. It shows Nintendo is serious and it shows Nintendo (with so much hardware now) is staying in the hardware business...a perception that they've had a hard time trying to break with all these gloom/doom & negative analysts. The new GCN may help reverse the negative image of the old toy-like purple one to the mainstream. The new GBA may not be a major blow to PSP, but it'll show Nintendo is diversifying and expanding and not killing off the NDS or GBA with a "GameBoy next" so soon. And showing the shell of the Revolution, gives the system a bit more of a presence next generation so that the industry knows it's real and that it's serious...it should look mean and powerful, not cute & trendy (like the GCN unfourtunatly did). The buzz will be ALL about PS3 & 36o, so I think Nintendo needs to at least give a face to their next system so it isn't completly forgotten before it even launches...and together with a new GCN & GBA (a media darling BTW, since it's been so popular) they could generate alot of buzz for themselves as well.

I'm confident hardware itself will not be shown off for the reason that it's proably not much to look at at this point. Remember the clunky looking DS at last year's show? We're even further out from the Revolution's launch, so there is lots of time left for revisions to the case design.

It could go either way. Johnny has either seen the hardware or knows someone else who has, and he thinks it's pretty hot shit.

If I were Nintendo, after the shitstorm they got for the look of the GCN, one of the first things I would work on for the next console would be the case design. Maybe there won't be an actual case, but concept drawings shown on a slide during the presentation? Or just a hollow concept shell under glass.

I wouldn't dare show off the case design untill Sony has gone first.

I'm sure they have to be working damn hard on a decent design this time around. They have to realize what they did to themselves. I'm sure its priority; I would hope anyway...

Whatever the design (Reggie promised it would be a very sexy device don't forget), I doubt it could look any worse than the crumpet toaster 360.

Nintendo's conference is after sony's and we already know 360's look. They'll know exactly where they are before their conference and hopefully reveal the design. Really considering there wont' be any games why not take some of microsoft's hype away and show a better looking console. :p

Yeah, so far, 360 is pretty ugly looking. Maybe it's not final, I dunno. But it just looks wrong on every level. White is cool though.

that would be great if the showed a redesigned gamecube as well.

i could use a second cube now that my kid has taken over mine. lol

Speculation here: I think Sony's gonna try to do alot to kill 360 hype and they're gonna do it by talking about how much more powerful PS3 is and how it offers the real "HD era" since it uses a real HiDef disc format, bla bla, bla, we are Sony, we are great, the console wars are already over...and I'm sure in this they'll show off the PS3 casing so that people will "feel" it coming making it easier for people to wait when Sony says: "don't buy an X-BOX 1.5, wait for PS3...until then, buy a PSP to tide you over!"

So, from that MS shows their hardware, Sony shows theirs (with an obviously better design than X-BRICK 360) and then Nintendo HAS to show their's so they don't get left behind.

GCN was Mr. Yamauchi era and was very Japanese focused so it's design just...actually scared most mainstream westerners. Revolution is Mr. Iwata era, the new Nintendo, and I remember him making mention (early on) of how much research was being done on shell design and that the next system would be less like GCN and more like N64 in that regard. GBA SP & NDS (despite it having 2 media slots, 2 screens and lot's of extra features) ended up being appealing if that's any sign of things to come. And at last years E3, Nintendo did a redesign for the NDS 'cos of aesthetic complaints so I'm sure Nintendo will have something nice looking.

That was in my prediction. I'm sure if they chop off the bottom ports, make the casing & drive smaller overall they could squeeze the GCN down to about half it's size. And without all those ports on the bottom and hardware shortcuts that could make the thing even cheaper. Hell add wireless to it for downloading data from new game discs to the new wireless GBA and add life to both products. Pack 'em together as a combo even, go nuts!

Call it GAMECUBEmini, push it with hard ad's this Christmas with Zelda and I think the masses would find it way more appealing than the original GCN design.

Ugh. I certainly hope the controller stays in one piece.

Then hold the two grips togehter. Sorry...it's just an idea I've got that I haven't been able to fully draw-out yet. I've presented the idea before on GAF, but I guess some people just don't get it or like it. I wanna draw it up again and talk about it again, but it may be pointless if Nintendo ends up revealing the controller interface. Notice they've never called it a controller (just an interface) and notice Mr. Takeda said that the Revolution would be hard to "show off" or present to people...I suspect 'cos in order to really get a feel for this two fisted interface you'd have to play it yourself...and it's probably not likely Revolution will be playable this E3.

DrGAKMAN, PM me your controller description and I'll draw it for you. I have one of my own, but I remember yours is a bit different than my drawing.
