Tna/Spike TV deal is official

TNA has a loyal fanbase, and hopefully it will continue to expand. Whether you like TNA or not, an alternative to the WWE is better for the wrestling biz overall.

and also, UPN bans Muhammad Hassan from Smackdown...for good!
http://www.1wrestling.com/news/newsline.asp?news=23344

Just proves that Vince isnt as smart as he thinks he is. It's a no brainer that they shouldn't have aired the terrorist angle on the day of the London attacks. What the hell are they going to do now? Draft him to RAW or release him?

1 - Great! It's a small step, but an important one. No wonder Panda Energy wasn't going to divest themselves of TNA - now all Dixie Carter has to do is keep Triple J from gumming up the works.

2 - ...America sucks.

Man, I feel bad for Hassan. He was only doing the stupid shit that they asked him to do, and he was growing on me in recent weeks. Oh well.

Good for TNA, I guess. But from what I understand, it's still gonna be a one hour show once a week, and they really need more than that to run a decent fed. Meh.

Maybe he'll return with the FBI..he is Italian and all :lol

Yeah, the one hour weekly timeslot does suck. But on the plus side, it's taking over a WWE timeslot, so people might be inclined to tune in. Add that to TNA's loyal fanbase, and they could possibly do much better than Velocity. And it was also said that if TNA does well in the ratings, they will move it to a better timeslot.

Before that stupid "carry out Daivari Palestinian-funeral-style" bit, Hassan was probably the most over heel in the company. The guy actually took a one-dimensional gimmick and was making it his own, successfully.

Stupid writers.

This is not really that big.....

But as a wrestling fan, I am still happy to see WWE have some competition although I donÂ’t see TNA been a huge threat. I really wanted to see the Monday Night Wars start up again but TNA on Saturday cancels out this..

My guessing is that something happens Muhammad Hassan at the bash maybe a amnesia angle and he join up with Kerwin White!!! :D

The thing with the Smackdown tapings was this... it was taped on TUESDAY, voiceover/editing done on Wednesday and then aired on thursday. It's just terrible coincidence that the bombings happened.

There is NO WAY they could have re-edited the show in that short of a time span. That was a large chunk of time they would have had to fill.

the question is what to do with Hassan now. It's a great heel character. To top it off it looked like he was booked to win the #1 contenders match this Sunday.

Unless... Mr. Lesnar does a run-in and destroyes both him and Taker. Setting him vs Taker vs Dave in a triple threat at Summerslam? Hmm..... Vince has to do something now.

Oh, GO TNA! YAY!

What did Hassan do?
Long story short, they taped an episode of Smackdown on the Tuesday before the London bombings where Hassan used masked "terrorists" to choke out the Burgertaker- I mean Undertaker. The London bombings happened the day of the Smackdown airing, and people being people, lots of mouth breathers out there took offense.

Jesus. I liked Hassan but not on Smackdown. Until Cena's squishing, he never had been pinned and could cut a hell of a promo. They should've stuck him in a fued with JBL since JBL is all american and all. Chasing mexicans at the border and whatnot. Bring him back to Raw and have his people attack Hogan!

Shit, UPN already had the master copy of the tape by the time the bombings happen. In other words, UPN could have edited it, but they didn't.

As for Hassan? He'll go back to raw and complain about the television networks screwing him over for being arab :D

Thats the match I've been waiting for.

Matt's also scheduled to return to ROH 2 more times to battle Homocide and then Roderick Strong. He'll definetly lose to Homocide, but I see him going over Strong. Hard to call who will go over between him and AJ, but that will be a definete treat.

I look forward to watch TNA on Saturdays. Their ratings will be pretty low but it's a good start.

No more Hassan? That can only mean more Daivari!

Daivari agrees.

That's a pretty sweet deal for Matt. Being able to still get paid off of Indy work while under a WWE contract. Alot of other wrestlers would kill for that.

Thank god for TNA finally getting this deal. I think there's a good chance it'll catch on hopefully enough for them to do a syndicated show and maybe (way down the line) a primetime telecast. With this added to the fact that TNA is going to be doing house shows soon, I see them doing well in a couple of years.

TNA reminds me of 80s WCW, hopefully a network *cough*Turner*cough* sees this too and gives them a shot.

I hope it is true that they are doing house shows soon. The real trick to success for TNA's house shows is to hit the secondary markets that WWE ignores. Cities like an Akron, Canton or Dayton.

But I can say this though, it's an exciting time to be a fan of wrestling again.

Anyone find it od that WWE seems to be doing everything wrong that's possible? What will it take for Vince to wake up and realize his methods and lame writing are KILLING his business? It's not the talent's lack of trying. I'm sure they're just as disheartened to whats going on around them. It seems VERY reminiscent of WCW towards the end.

No chance of them going to a Turner network. Seeing as how the only person there who liked wrestling was Ted Turner himself and he doesn't even run his own company anymore.

I was under the impression he still ran TBS?

He has mentioned that he'd love to get wrestling back on the air as he knows it's a guaranteed ratings grabber on cable and was pissed when it was dropped from TNT.

This is not a big deal at all. TNA in the Velocity spot is about as bad as the afternoon spot it had on Fox Sports Net.

As far as Hassan, the original story was to turn him face after a short time and actually make him a sympathetic character. Vince saw the heat he was getting and kept him heel and just further pushed the envelope until now UPN has had enough. Vince lives in another reality with nothing but yes men that reinforce that reality. Sucks for Hassan though. I say re-package him and put him RAW.

edit - Turner has nothing to do with TBS, TNT, CNN, anything that he founded has nothing to do with Ted anymore.

hmmm. Ted's No-compete IS up in 2006 though. Wonder what that wily old bastard has in mind? He's always has loved "rasslin", so maybe something will come of it.

Its better than the timeslot ECW always got. Shit I remember when ECW's first syndicated show wouldn't come on until 2 A.M and it still was somewhat sucessful...

Lord_Alfred_Hayes.jpg

Remembering Lord Alfred Hayes -- who died Wednesday at age 77 -- as just the buffoon second-banana on the WWF Tuesday Night Titans is to do a huge injustice to one of the greatest wrestlers ever to come out of the United Kingdom.

Beginning to wrestle in the early 1950s in Britain, the 5-foot-9, 238-pound "Judo" Al Hayes was a top-notch heel wherever he wrestled in the 1960s and 1970s, including Florida, the Central States territory and Texas. He was usually billed as being from Windermere, England.

Then, in 1982, he joined the expanding WWF under Vince McMahon Jr., and upped the Britishness of his act. He was in countless skits on Tuesday Night Titans, The Bobby Heenan Show and the various WWF programs, as well as serving as commentator on matches on those shows.
I still have some old-school wrestling videos with Lord Alfred Hayes on commentary...bummer. :(

People will go apeshit if he ever breaks out the Magic Carpet Ride.

HAHA I have tickets to both shows wooooooooo!!!!!! But are those typos intentional?

The rumors of UPN asking WWE to permanently remove the Muhammad Hassan character are indeed true, and WWE writers are hard at work devising a way to write the character out of the program.

One idea being tossed around is to have Undertaker kill the character off at Great American Bash, although that is not confirmed.

Between the media outrage, complaints sent to WWE and UPN headquarters and backlash from affiliates and sponsors, UPN apparently saw no alternative.

Noooooooooooo.......

:lol :lol :lol

Fuck man. I was looking forward to a Hassan/Batista title match. Looks like that stupid ass Taker will win the match now :(

--The Mexicools vs. BWO takes place on Sunday's PPV in an angle that was shot for Velocity.

YES YES YES

--Dave Hebner was officially fired yesterday.

:( Only Brian remains

Maybe not.... they still have Lesnar under glass and waiting for the right time to use him again. Becuase I really doubt they'd do a face vs face bout for Summerslam.

Something is going to happen during this match.

Oh and Solo, been nice knowing you.... enjoy your vacation.

Another one bites the dust. Is that about 1:1 ratio of wrestling threads and bannings?

Something like that, they just never learn. Coming into a wrestling thread to troll seems to be irresistable to some.

Lesnar/Batista...that would be a very bad match. But if kept relatively short and some kind of gimmick to distract the crowd, it could be a big money match for Wrestlemania. Just gotta have Brock killing people until then. Taker does not need the strap. Taker never needs the strap again. He would be over even if he started wearing a Doink outfit.

Hehe...no. Sadly, I just can't spell today :(

Homicide owns, but I dont have to tell you that

COP KILLER

This is not a big deal at all. TNA in the Velocity spot is about as bad as the afternoon spot it had on Fox Sports Net.

But FSN isnt availible on nearly as many standard cable systems as Spike TV. And Velocity in the same spot has done over 1.0 a few times. TNA will do well.

What was that pro American song they used to play for Hogan?

You know, I am actually surprised that WWE fired that dude. You would think this would make him all the more hated and put more people in the seats to boo him.

Fired who? If you're talking about Hassan, he's not fired, he'll probably be moved to RAW or undergo a character makeover.

edit: oh shit looks like WWE is just straight up dropping him, no move to RAW or character change.

Source: WrestlingObserver.com

-- Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE will be dropping the Hassan character, and he will not be moving back to RAW

-- No word on Daivari, who at current state of play, WWE wish to keep.

Ah, I misread it. I thought WWE fired him, didn't see that the network banned him.
