Blades Of Fire gets 5'd by IGN

Blades of Fire's blacksmithing burns bright, but it doesn't forge a sharp enough edge to put its customizable weapons to good use. The combat is serviceable but overly simplistic, and the mediocre story often failed to evoke any kind of emotion in me at all, positive or negative, as it just goes through the motions from start to finish. The unintuitive map also frequently left me running in circles, making what could have been a fun hunt for secrets feel more like a chore. And when those pain points are compounded by unflattering comparisons to the games it so clearly took inspiration from, Blades of Fire just can't cut it.

Absolutely MercurySteam'd

Haven't seen a single ad. Haven't seen any discussion about the game. Also Epic exclusive.

RIP

They gave Wanted Dead a 4. I pre-ordered that and Blades of Fire.

People really aren't okay with AA action games that try new things.

Idk what this game plays like but ign commenting on a combat system means less than nothing.

Sorry, whatever writer did this review. There is shame on your house and you are a hack just for being there.

Not a big fan of the art style so I can't imagine I could play this game for 55 hours as IGN alleges is how long it took to roll credits on not even the "true ending".

Im sure its not for everyone but I am confident I'll likely enjoy it. There's a demo if you want to check it out.

Well I mean fuck IGN, but also Mercury Steam has never put out a good game. Shit dev.

I've seen some James Sawyer Brown takes in my day...but this one is IconERA worthy.

A nothing game with a shit score by the worst mainstream slop media outfit in the gaming world needed its own topic? Is this what is considered a slow news day on GAF?

MercurySteam has been making games for Konami and Nintendo for over a decade and they still haven't figured out how to make good games. Even Bloober managed to graduate. wtf man…

Graduate just means AAA graphics for a remake of someone else's game?

MS made the best Castlevania and the best Metroid.

Dread being the best Metroid I'll entertain, but LoS being the best Castlevania can fuck right off.
I loved it. Great story. Great voice acting. Great art design. Great book UI. Great combat system with challenges and multiple difficulties. Great OST. Long game too.

Not like I dont love most Castlevania games but thats my favorite. Easily.

It'll take quite some time to forget that IGN crowned Metaphor Refantazio their GOTY last year.
i'm finally playing it, & i either had to pass on the last month out of sheer boredom or finish on easy (which's what i'm doing). a quite good game much of the time, but eventually very tiresome & in no way a great game...

I played the demo of this and it's definitely not a 5, unless it somehow strongly goes downhill after. This is an 8/10 game.

I totally agree it isn't but didn't GAF mostly circle jerk that it's amazing?

Granted GAF also has this massive boner for astrobot which is far worse than metaphor lol.

2024 was a trash year for games,

game play really looked mediocre to me it should have had a magic system like fable. Every game dosnt need to be 50 hours to complete. The only thing that intrigued me was that young twink that follows your around.

I played the demo for almost 5 hours and thought the game was a blast. Cant say I agree with that rating

She played over 50 hours.
Watch the review and review review.
Maybe 5 hours is great......actually getting to the credits sounds like it was a chore.

Jade is also one of the most lenient of the IGN reviewers, if she gave it a 5 it must have been really bad.

Umm, I didn't look into it but the reviewer sounds....never mind. Maybe the main character is too 'generic' for them. :P
