Blades Of Fire gets 5'd by IGN

I bought Dread day one. It looks good and has excellent controls. But the only part of the actual game I thought stacked up were the no joke bosses. I have no desire to see or play the rest of the game ever again. Because it is a Mercury Steam game that isn't that great. Replace Samus with random character and everybody would agree and compare it unfavorably to Fusion.

It felt even more frustratingly linear than fusion which I wouldn't have thought possible but here we are.

I played the demo of this and it's definitely not a 5, unless it somehow strongly goes downhill after. This is an 8/10 game.

IGN gave Lies of P an 8, it certainly wasnt a 9/10 game so 8 was justified..........you think this game is anywhere near that level?

Consider watching Jades review review, shes IGNs most lenient reviewer, hell she was even trying her best to save Concord, but this game is too long for what its got and you could see Jade struggling to say good things about the game because thats just how she is.

I could imagine a short maybe 10 - 12 hours of this game being rated higher, but 50 hours of this shit sounds like a slog of all slogs considering the combat has near no depth.

Remember Ryse.....Ryse had shallow combat but atleast it had the decency not to overstay its welcome and had pretty graphics.

This????

When this means they're cheaper for Nintendo to buy to make more 2D Metroids im totally fine with this game to bomb.
Never heard of it before I read this topic

Fusion is awesome though and totally opens up in the end, and it is glorious. Dread sucks balls, worst level-design in the 2D series ever.

When I said compare unfavorably to Fusion, I mean Fusion would be seen as better instead of saying Dread is best 2D Metroid. If you just replaced the main character. But people want Samus to be on the map and to feel something, so we tell ourselves things.

Explains why they took a bag for exclusivity at Tiny Timmy's failed EGS.

Going Epic exclusive it the biggest "We have zero faith in our product" sign posting move.

Coulda had the Gamepass/PS+ money and atleast had an advertising run from the platform holders.

I dont think I even saw a launch trailer for this game.

I'm currently playing the demo. I like a good amount of the game's ideas, art driection, and music, but the combat and crafting aren't very enjoyable.

Definitely a mixed bag. I want to like it more, going to finish the demo to finalize my thoughts towards it.

Maybe people complaining about IGN should first check out the game?

I've only watched a trailer of it, but man, it looked mediocre

5 sounds about right from what I saw

MercurySteam has been making games for Konami and Nintendo for over a decade and they still haven't figured out how to make good games. Even Bloober managed to graduate. wtf man…
Copying someone's work while upgrading the paper you copied it on is now graduating? LOL

They gave Wanted Dead a 4. I pre-ordered that and Blades of Fire.

People really aren't okay with AA action games that try new things.
there's some truth to that, now for japanese games the game-design or mechanics usually goes over their heads but for a western game like that, if they say the combats are simplistic i would bet they're right

that being said they're probably still harsher on mid budget games because there are plenty of games with shallow combats that get great score

still kind of interested in the game despite the GoW reboot feeling that annoys me

5 sounds about right if you usually score all games from 0 to 10, not from 7 to 10

Based on the demo, there's a lot of fun AA shit to love. I don't know what they're smoking with the combat. I mean it's not a fighting game, how complex does it need to be? It has directional four button attacks, armor-based damage and what not.

That being said, I'm tired as fuck of the Souls formula even if it isn't 1:1 copied and the art style is total shit like every MS game. I just fundamentally don't like this dev.

I'd give the demo a 6.5/10. A 7 if the little kid steps in a bear trap and dies of dysentery while limping back home.

The bosses are probably the best part of the experience, yeah. Especially from playing the one-hit kill mode, you can appreciate how much effort went into making the fights challenging but fair so long as you use the tools available to you.

There are a fair amount of sequence breaks built into the map too, for those willing to push the boundaries, but the game definitely has issues outside of these parts: Bad loading times and unintuitive design topping the list (I could never tell where to go next and felt I was riding on rails too often).

It's a good game though, a big step up from Samus Returns too, just not in the upper echelon of the franchise (#6 out of 13 seems about right imo)

Kinda, because everyone expected for them to come short but the end result was great and many people love the remake more than the original.

It is not that easy to nail remakes.

That's what a remake is. They still built the game from scratch and it had damn good gameplay. Way better than the OG.
I bought the original Day 1 and if you actually played the remake and think it's such a simple fucking copy that magically appeared without starting completely from scratch, you're a dumbass.

I think IGN has the worst reviews right now, they seem like they're written by people who have some issues with the normal world.

It's a good remake but for me the best Silent Hill 2 version is still the fan made enhanced edition for PC,as it's the original vision with increased visual fidelity and qol improvements.

In a similar vein to the RE4 HD Project and the reason I don't like the RE4 Remake as much compared to the fan made HD project for the 2005 original as it keeps the soul of the game intact while upping the visuals considerably to the point that textures look better in the fan made remaster than the "Remake" and its washed up blurry visuals.

Sure but it's still copying at the end of the day. Not much of a graduation as you said.

Voice acting in the original si kinda amateurish, especially for james, new james just sound 100x times better, i just can't go back.

From the gameplay video released prior to launch, Blades of Fire looks like a God of War (2018) ripoff.

Which is ironic because Lords of Shadow was a God of War (OG) ripoff.

Seems like the difference is this game sucks while LoS was great.
