I just finished reading it. Took two hours in one sitting. Coudn't put it down. I really can't put into words how great I thought it was.

I'll just quote BuddyC:

It's a very personal, heart warming/breaking story of growing up in a first love, freedom, and sibling rivalry in a strict religious household.

Yeah, that's the premise, but it's good. It's really good.

And thanks to BuddyC for getting me to notice it in another thread over half a year ago.

This this has really nice art and a great flow to the visual story. I also couldn't put it down. Highly recommend it.

I'm about halfway through Blankets. It's excellent.

I picked up the new Daniel Clowes book a few days ago:

It's a slim book, but I read the first few pages when I bought it and it looks great.

:O

What's that about, I'm tempted to place an order.

What's that about?

Witty and poignant, this collection of semi-autobiographical tales focuses on love, despair, lost friendships, and the murky morality of stealing from work. Known for being one of the funniest series ever published in comics form, Lowlife dissects the Slacker / Generation X lifestyle from the inside out, bringing a great amount of humanity to the process along the way.

It's quite great, although it can be quite depressing at times. It's actually based a good deal on Ed Brubaker's own life, which makes you wonder how he could come from such a background to the mainstream comics writer he is today.

Excellent book, though.

Thanks for the heads up.

I (and plenty of others) used to have some fun a few years ago on The Comics Journal messageboard taking shots at Blankets and the people who loved it. All in good fun, of course, nothing personal (you sissies!). My indie comics tastes fall more along the lines of drunken dick jokes, like Tony Millionaire, Sam Henderson, Johnny Ryan, Ivan Brunetti and etc., but I'll give it a shot based on your recommendations.

Haven't heard many good things about Lowlife, but considering how unbelievably good he is at writing his current series (Sleeper) I might as well try it.

The first book I always recommend to people who liked Blankets is another big book from Top Shelf:

Alternatively, I'd recommend Bendis's key big book: Jinx.

I thought this was going to be about actual blankets... the ones we sleep with... and some revealing investigative report about all the nasty stuff hiding in them.
