Blizzard's Upcoming Survival Game Is Open-World FPS Multiplayer

Have you played Valheim? The immediate thing that came to my mind over a year ago in early access was exactly how much more polished it was than many AAA releases.

Production is also worthless in this sort of genre. It’s more about what you bring to the table. How good is the loop? How much freedom will there be? Valheim allows you to build some crazy shit. Will Blizzard have that same level? I doubt it. It’ll also be littered with MTX trash like their other games.

People put way too much stock in production values and graphics, which this is a genre where mechanics matter more.

I know Valheim is high quality...but it was literally made by a team of 5 people and content updates are taking them an eternity. I'm sure they've hired a few more since launch.

I don't think Blizzard looks at the Valheim studio + game and thinks..."Well we're going up against the juggernauts again."

Plus, unlike League and Dota, Valheim struggles with player retention...meaning Valheim fans are looking for stuff to play a few weeks after a content drop. Heroes of the Storm had to pry MOBA players away from League + Dota. Blizzard doesn't have to do that this time.

This will be a hit. Book it.

'it is a world different from any other blizzard has built...'

great news! i'm so fucking done with dirt, trees, & grass...

Survival mode is like the new BR. They add survival features to everything. The new generation seems to like it, especially those who grew up with Minecraft. I don't know how they enjoy starting each game by collecting wood.

Via Source - Summary
  1. a new project in a new world
  2. moment-to-moment FPS gameplay experiences in the survival genre
  3. AAA survival game - NEW IP For PC/Console
  4. FPS content, gameplay, level design, and scenario design
  5. amazing FPS first open-world multiplayer spaces
  6. creating FPS mission experiences
  7. "A new world and a new journey await you. It is a world different from any other Blizzard has built"
Guaranteed Microsoft exclusive, this will be one of the bigger gets in terms of Xbox games from the acquisition.

If it is announced as multiplat before the aquisition is done, they probably will not walk that back. Otherwise it will be exclusive.

The man literally says he’s only guessing based on when development started, and it isn’t based on any insider information. Why are you making it out like he’s claiming inside information on launch targets?
Your right and I should have stuck to browsing pornhub while somewhat intoxicated ;) BUT this also makes the tweet even more pointless, with no inside information how does he know exactly how close to complete in a multiplatform context it really is? Blizzard have thrown shit out near completetion before (starcraft ghost, warcraft adventure thing come to mind). Then we have overwatch which was an mmo (titan?) before it got gutted late in development and salvaged into overwatch.

I also want to know what the difference between a game being near complete in a multiplatform context is as opposed to a game just being near complete? Was Redfall considered near complete in a multiplatform context?

This is actually a pretty good video explaining a lot of what we know about this game. The first half of the video touches upon most of the leaks thus far. The second half of the video dives into job postings surrounding the game.

Calling davidjaffe davidjaffe and all the other "Live Service is a crapshoot" types...this ain't no Knockout City/Multiverses/Halo Infinite.

This game is either the next Fortnite (best case scenario) or the next Apex Legends (worst case scenario) in terms of success + popularity.

I'm more curious now!

Sounds interesting on paper but it depends how it looks. Overwatch makes me want to vomit with its horrible childish graphics.

Ever since announcement of this title it has me of two minds.

I really really want a AAA take on survival.

But I really have no love for blizzard recently. They have farted out fan servicey shit for years now.

And then after Diablo 4 beta it feels like they are trying again

But then you look at the puke that is overwatch 2 and war3 remake and the shell of a game WoW has become...

I just wish this AAA survival game was a different studio 🤣

So EQ fans are trying to emulate Landmark:

If you don't know what that is:

Basically Landmark was a voxel-based survival building game that would've allowed people to build voxel-based props and structures and then import them into EverQuest Next's sandbox MMO.

People who worked at SOE at the time on Landmark are wishing these fans luck getting it running as apparently the server structure is going to be a challenge, but someone will probably figure it out. But an interesting thing I saw in the conversations about this emulation and reminiscing about Landmark and how no one has done a survival building game using voxels the way it did yet is that apparently Blizzard's survival game is looking very very similar to Landmark.
