Blockbuster/Gamerush has gone insane. :p

Well, I was surfing and came across a reuters report about how Blockbuster is getting rid of all late fees. Yup, NO MORE LATE FEES. Now I was wondering how they were going to accomplish this since I myself have paid my fair share of late fees to them. This is how its going to work at least for games.

You rent your game of choice just like normal. You get a due date, again, just like normal. Now here is where it changes, supposedly if you don't get the game back by the due date they will not charge you a late fee. They give you a week grace period. :O If by the end of the week grace period you have not brought the game back they charge you the retail amount minus the rental fee.

Now I would say that is a fair transaction and a great try before you buy. But here is where it gets crazy. You have 30 days from the time of the due date to bring the game back and get a full refund minus a $1.25 restocking fee! HUH! WTF? LOL, that is nuts.

I don't know about you but I'll be using this new system. It will allow me to weed out the games I really like vs. just my impulse buys. It will definately save me tons of money.

I think this new policy takes effect after the new year so definatley check out your local Blcokbuster/Gamerush to see whats going on.

Just sick.

Retail price? Dont Blockbuster actually pay like twice more than retail price for rental copies of movies? Does it applies to videogames too?

ENJOY YOUR 120$ OUTRUN2!

This thread seems to imply that Blockbuster was sane before they started this new program, which is quite untrue.

I don't think this is going to work.

Why not? If people start getting hit for the REAL price of DVD's those things'll start coming back quick time.

I work at a BB. Price for VHS that you can't purchase at stores, like say Harry Potter comes out to buy that week but like Anacondas doeesn't...Anacondas is about $110 for the VHS. DVDs are about $30-60 dollars.

I don't think that type of retail pricing has been in place for years now. That was from back in the days when Blockbuster or (or any rental outlets) had a time frame window where the movies were only available for rental, not for sale.

Now DVD movies get thrown in the preowned bin so quickly. At $15 or whatever BB pays, they only need 4-5 turns on a movie to make money...then they sell it used for almost original cost.

For games I'd imagine you'd have to pay the suggested retail, which would be between $50-60 or so.

First mistake: posting old news

My god, get over yousrself jackass.

YOU WERE A JUNIOR MEMBER YOURSELF AT ONE TIME!

Isn't this banable yet?

Talk about your pointless trolling.

Anyway about the topic at hand, it will be interesting to see how this gets handled. I personally think it's a good idea since DVDS and games have goten so cheap now and it does present the option of rent to own.

Actually, Blockbuster has been my latest source of good gaming deals. Often I'll find brand new GBA games for 12.99 or 24.99. Suck as Sonic Advance 3 and the entire GBA Video line-up. Ontop of that I've gathered a few standees.

You elitst pricks and your "junior member" crap :/

you were all junior members at one point, so suck it up

Nice way to invite new people in...

#1. Nobody f'n invited you, you registered and got accepted, though a forum member may have say hey come check this place out.
#2. Stop making dumb ass posts/threads and you'll stop seeing the junior member comments.
#3. If you aren't the junior member who made the stupid post/thread in the first f'n place stop taking it f'n personal when someone points out that a junior member did it.

Stop crying goddamit.

this junior member banning thing is a bit wacky but seems to be the "in" thing right now - Personally i've been active on the various incarnations of this board for over five years but i dont post very often so i've never been anything other than a "junior member" (well, apart from on the previous board where my tag was changed to developer in some freebie handout thread)

banning junior members from posting topics is probalby just gonna encourage them to post more radom shit in threads so they can become non-junior and post topics - it'll just make it a goal for them..

then again, i dont start threads that often so i don't really know what i'm worried about about? :)

edit: heh, what do ya know? apparently i do post enough to be a "member" - i just hadn't noticed the change over due to only posting every couple of days on average! so i say ban them, all of them! muwahahahahaha

Who said we wanted to invite more people in? This forum is already getting overcrowded by the 13 year olds coming in from IGN, Gamefaqs or whatever, getting even more would be overkill.

It's really simple. You become a member of a messageboard, you wait a good two to six months before you start posting topics. By then you'll be able to see accepted practices and you'll also learn that other people might be a little quicker than you at posting said topics.

Also, your topics will be a hell of a lot smarter because you'll have gained two to six months worth of real knowledge! That's especially true here.

Thanks for posting this, Jones...it's new to me

and in most cases, I agree that Junior Members are a pain in the ass...but for posting 'teh old news'? (something that is common amongst all but Wario64)

I find it ironic that these "junior member" threads get bashed so often, yet end up being 2-4 page threads.

You all know that this hard as nails approach doesn't work, don't you? As someone above me said, once you generalize and call all junior members stupid, it just promotes more stupid posts to get to member status.

At the risk of exposing myself to insult-leaping nitwits, I was a junior member not too long ago and I never got bashed for it, so obviously not everybody with a junior member level is an idiot. Some are, some aren't, and there are plenty of "superior" members getting banned all the time as far as I can tell.

Take a quiet approach, close the threads with a comment as to why they were closed, and if they still want to fight back viciously, do a temp or permaban. Or just ignore the topic, why does everyone have to play mod here? That's why we have real mods and they seem to be doing a fine job. Stupid posts only resurface when they're bumped, and most of the time its the "superior" members doing the bumping.

The real quiet approach was the fact that this thread hadn't been posted in since 1:22pm and was well on it's way to fading in to the background... thanks for bouncing it back to the top.

[army officer mode]the problem is that today's junior menbers are a different breed altogheter. one that doesnt quite agree with the old guard (menbers like us) on how you should comport yourself while posting.
it's like these new kids want to start flame wars for the sake of it.
i think we should have a junior menber mentor program. that way we can teach the new kids how things are done[/army officer mode]

Your welcome! Maybe if you actually thought about my suggestions instead of backhanding an insult in my direction, you might get somewhere.

And if you'd let this thread die then everything would be fine til another junior member made another stupid thread and we got to laugh and have fun about it again... but NO... somebody had to try to wear the BIG pants and try to educate folks on things they already f'n know.

Hello? Half the joy of the junior member threads is getting to make fun of said junior member and said thread.... how can you be on this forum and not know that?

Oh, so this FORUM should be smething that should be a special privelege?

Like i said earlier, you were all Junior Members not that long ago due to the server going down. Just because you posted enough to either have "member" or some supposedly witty tag line doesn't make you any better.

GET OVER YOURSELVES, you post on a video game message board. That reall isn't something be so pissy and anal over.

New members are always a good thing, get more opinons, be they ones you agree with or not.

Lets put things in perspective here, not all of you make the best topics or make the most intelligent posts (myself included).

Do yourselves a favor and lighten up, you too were a JM at one point.

although i agree 90% of the new members a idiots....

All this junior member did was post old news give the guy a break. We have all posted old news from time to time.

We have it here in Australia.

Traffic flow definitely seems to have improved in the store I go to but apparently they lose a lot of stuff.

People just hire stuff they want but know they can't get and happily pay the fee to get their "rare" DVD or game.

Rental pricing still exists for VHS. It doesn't for DVD though. However, there have been some studios (coughwarnercough) who are actively trying to get rental pricing implemented for DVDs, which would mean there would be some movies you would not be able to buy on DVD until they have been in the rental market for a set period of time.

Holy shit. Look what I started. :lol

Dance my puppets, dance!

I included the bit about junior members in the first place because of all the people picking on them lately, and I knew Gorilla Jones would be ridiculed for it. Not because I have anything against junior members.

edit: ah, shit, this was answered, but...

No, that was the way VHS used to work... a movie would come out to rent months before it was available for the public to buy. The pricing for the rental copies was crazy high because of the understanding that if people wanted to see it, they had to rent, and that meant the video store would probably be making much more than retail price back on each copy. Now that's not the case, as DVDs are released to retail right away and there's no exclusivity period for the rental market.

...

In reply to the original post, they may only charge a $1.25 stocking fee in the end, but how it works is that they'll charge your card the price of the game, $50, after 2 weeks, then refund $48.75 when you return before the month's up. If you don't time it right with your CC bill, you'll have to either pay the fee one month and get it back the next, or face that $50 accruing interest. Though that's not too big a deal, it's still a potential hidden cost.

Dude, that's the entire reason some people post here. Don't deny them their few meager victories in life. :P

However, it's true starting a new topic here is risky business for everyone, especially JM's, (I never did it as a JM, for instance). You see something very interesting on Gamespot or CNN.com that was put up 30 minutes ago, come here to post on it, and there's already a thread with 10 replies.

The search engine can be a great help tool, especially if you pick unique words to the article or topic you are interested in starting a new thread about.

Bingo. It's old news, like the thread title, but not to some people.
