This is amazing. For context, Australia is currently in the midst of a divisive postal survey to determine whether same-sex marriage will be written into the law. Currentry, same-sex couples can wed via a civil union but it doesn’t carry the same rights. All eligible voters have been sent a postal survey asking a simple Yes or No as to whether they support same-sex marriage.

The No campaign is being led by an absolute cunt of a blike called Tony Abbott, a religious and conservative dinosaur who was Prime Minister of the country for two long years before the current PM Malcolm Turnbull staged a coup and took over. Abbott is an extremely divisive figure, loved by conservatives and hated by progressives.

Abbott had just finished campaigning for the No vote and was walking down a street when a bloke called Astro “Funknukl” Labe Yelled out to Abbott and asked for a handshake. Abbott went to shake his hand and the bloke headbutted Abbott causing him to suffer a swollen lip. The headbutter has been arrested for common assault.

The best part was his reason for doing it:

Labe told News.com.au that he had been spurred on to act simply out of dislike for Abbott rather than over marriage equality.

“It was nothing really remotely to do with that. It’s just about Tony Abbott — the fucking worm that he is,” he said.

“All it was is I saw Tony Abbott and I’d had half a skinful and I wanted to nut the cunt.”

“He’s a gentrified rich kid. He personifies everything I hate politically, and he’s not even good at it.

While I don’t condone the violence, it’s hard to be upset it happened to Abbott.

I generally don't condone acts of violence which are not defensive, and it sadly might end up having an unintentional retrograde effect on the progressive movement, but I'm not exactly going to shed a tear over it. I certainly hope so. I was on break at work earlier this week and and between 8 people in the room when the question came up it was a 50/50 split. Was completely shocked.

The 'No' campaigners are doing their absolute best to derail the entire debate as it is. If I have to hear the 'think of the children' argument one more time, I just might lose it.

Luckily, polling indicates that the 'yes' vote should be a shoe-in. I'm somewhat more interested in whether the additional enrolments will have a marked impact on the next election.
