Bloke headbutts former Aussie PM because he “just wanted to nut the cunt.”

Hah, fuck you, Abbott.

That being said, I don't think that head butting him does any favours in terms of promoting progressive views. I feel as though it's going to achieve the opposite. It just isn't really worth the ammo it gives the conservatives, and I think it was a bit of an irresponsible thing to do.

still heaps funny but

What a story to wake up to in this Newcastle heat lol.

off topic but omg there's another person from newy on here (hi)

Satisfying as hell, but, yeah, probably didn't do much in the way of the yes vote, unfortunately, even though it had nothing to do with that.

I did hear about this but only the victims side which was bullshit along the lines of "if this how yes campaigners act towards their opposition I have great fears for the future of this country blah blah intolerance."

I'd like to do this to David Cameron.
Apparently there was a private function recently when he lamenting losing his job and the whole Brexit process and a person there walked up to his face and was like "Oi Dave. Even in my golf club when we make constitutional changes we don't do so as a simple majority vote" then stormed out.

A bruise to his face will heal easily enough but his legacy being that series of dumb decision will never heal.

You know coming back on topic same sex marriage was passed in Parliament in the UK under David Cameron and indeed when resigning that was one of the only positive things he could say.

The shitty part about this is that the homophobes are basically using this as an example of how the left is violent and intolerant.

But man, Abbott is really human garbage.

This incident already seems to be swinging the vote of impartial voices such as Andrew Bolt.

Where do people draw the line? Alot of people seem fine with people punching racists but homophobes is too much?

I feel the same way about this that I do about cold-cocking Nazis. I generally don't condone acts of violence which are not defensive, and it sadly might end up having an unintentional retrograde effect on the progressive movement, but I'm not exactly going to shed a tear over it. Abbott is probably the biggest cunt I can think of outside of groups advocating genocide.

Bit difference to hitting a Nazi given dude can literally play the "yes voters are thugs" sympathy card now. Might have just handed him the vote.

And that's putting aside this moron wasn't doing it for political reasons, simply because he doesn't like the guy.

ETA - also, it's not funny. Using violence doesn't do shit to guys like Abbot. For a forum that gets salty when people don't vote, it's weird to see such a "violence is fine" attitude.

Not sure what i expected less, someone headbutting a former PM or a Gaf member from Newcastle in a topic about someone headbutting a former PM lol.
Oddly I live in Scotland but around half my family live in newt. Went to visit a few years ago and took in a Knights game. Totally destroyed the Bulldogs. Was a nice holiday feels like a home away from home.

On topic, this guys actions sound pretty measured and reasonable.

The 'No' campaigners are doing their absolute best to derail the entire debate as it is. If I have to hear the 'think of the children' argument one more time, I just might lose it.

Luckily, polling indicates that the 'yes' vote should be a shoe-in. I'm somewhat more interested in whether the additional enrolments will have a marked impact on the next election.

Miserable scum, when not even your sister's situation is enough to change your bigoted views. Great headbutt, no problems there.

I don't know if many people here realise that it was so minor. Abbott said "the only damage was a very, very slightly swollen lip.".
http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/...-out-after-alleged-headbutt-same-sex-marriage

I condemn the battery and it makes a stressful time more stressful. But it's getting more attention than the threats, beatings and discrimination on the homophobic side which leads to a false impression of the state of misbehaviour (to put it lightly) on this topic.

A very slightly swollen lip isn't enough for me to actually feel sympathy for Tony Abbott. He's inflicted worse beatings to others.
KERRY O'BRIEN: But on the issue of who and what Tony Abbott is and the image that you have, he does laugh about it now, but I believe that this is the second time you actually put Joe Hockey on the canvas. He says you once thumped him twice and gave him two black eyes on the football field. Is that right?

TONY ABBOTT: That's a slight exaggeration, but I also gave myself a broken knuckle as well. So, Joe is a tough man. He's not to be taken lightly. I didn't take him lightly then. I don't take him lightly now. I want him on my frontbench as Shadow Treasurer.

KERRY O'BRIEN: But that image of belligerence is one that you've earned over decades, along with nicknames like the Mad Monk. Now where did that tag come from?

TONY ABBOTT: I think that was a Michelle Gratton joke, and it was a good joke. But I think we've moved past that now, Kerry.

KERRY O'BRIEN: OK. So when you appealed to the public today not to judge you by your past actions, what sins in particular would you like us to forgive and forget?

TONY ABBOTT: Well, this is not a confessional and you can't give me absolution.

KERRY O'BRIEN: You don't know that. Depends what the sins are in your eyes.

TONY ABBOTT: Look, I'm not going to detail them, because I'm sure others will detail them for me. I'm sure the Labor Party is already getting its attack ads ready. So, look, all I ask for is to be judged on what I do.

As well as allegations:
Ramjan told Marr that following the election Abbott approached her. "He came up to within an inch of my nose and punched the wall on either side of my head. It was done to intimidate," she said. Another witness said that Abbott's gang was screaming "commie" and "poofter" as they barged in to make their threatening protest to Ramjan.

Since then, Abbott has variously said that “it would be profoundly out of character had it occurred" and "it never happened". In the first he leaves open the possibility it did happen and in the second he rules it out.

I know violence is bad and all, but from this side of the political fence, where someone is essentially 'nutting up', I can't help but have a little smirk.

Am I reading this thread correctly that it's OK to headbutt a person when their views do not align my own?

Quite a number of people here believe a politician with conservative ideas deserves more than a simple headbutt.

This is what happens when discussions and ideas born of events like Charlotsville are moved to other events and countries. Slippery slope is a bad argument in itself, but when people start implying opposition as 'Nazi' (see the cartoon linked above, or 'we punch Nazis, why not homophobes?'), as if Richard Spencer is Tony Abbott is Nigel Farage, that is a bad road. Maybe I am being too wary, but GAF is a little blunt and oblique in its discussions about this stuff at times.

Australia: a place where "nutting" some cunt (apparently) means to headbutt them. It really is in upside down land, isn't it?

Obviously everyone can choose his own threshold about those kind of thing.
But going all "so much for the tolerant left" about someone trying to prevent nation wide an entire pan of the population from having equal right just because of their sexual orientation, who got assaulted so badly he got ... a swollen lip. I need a violin, a very small one.
I still think it was the wrong thing to do, even if he deserved it.

I don’t understand how someone can be undecided on this - surely he’d either have a set stance for or against?

Anyone “undecided” who suddenly votes no strikes me as someone who just wants an excuse to do so.

What world do you live in?

Actions can be both positive and negative at the same time. For instance, it is not a nice action to headbutt someone. But then, if that someone is Tony Abbott then you could say it is a good start.

Was being sarcastic. Andrew Bolt is a far right columnist who has jumped all over this story.

You're absolutely right though. The only people 'changing' their vote based on this incident were always just looking for an excuse to vote no.

This guy is, apparently, friend of a friend, and apparently he's gotten 48 slabs today as gifts.

to translate... he has been bought 48 cases(box of 24 cans/bottles each) of beer today because he headbutted the unpopular ex prime minister by grateful locals

fucking amazing

Mixed feeling on this. I even see some signs at school about keeping the peace in these voting months.

A waste of money on this stupid poll anyway. Marriage is a human right and there's like nothing to lose by amending the marriage bill. Even the kiwi made same-sex marriage legal.

What does, "just wanted to nut the cunt" mean over there?

He wanted to headbutt the cunt, aka Abbott. I can't disagree with him since Abbott is truly a cunt. Just look at his sorry ass statement on this where he claims there's been lots of bullying against the yes campaign. Bullying against a fucking campaign to diminish others rights based on their sexuality and he thinks he's being bullied since he got a thick lip!

"Half a skinful"..."nut the cunt"

I don't know what any of this means, but I like it.

Translation...."I had drank slightly too many beverages with alcoholic content and I decided to headbutt that person over there who is frankly a complete fucking cunt"
