Um, so obviously giant grain of salt needed here. Someone at Quiter's msgboard posted info, and rumor is already spreading on 2ch.

~ブルードラゴン~

・坂口博信×鳥山明
・主人公は冒険好きな少年、シュウ
・発売日、価格ともに未定
Besides game being called Blue Dragon and Toriyama's involvement, it also says name of the boy hero will be Shuu (?), and that's it.
I did search on guy that posted that and he already leaked some stuff before (Tales Of Legendia...) so I dunno...

Sounds plausible. Sakaguchi mentioned in previous interviews that one of the XBox360 games he's working on would feature a shounen manga type hero who was young and optimistic, etc. Definitely fits with Toriyama.

Yeah, but when MW was first announced Sakaguchi mentioned a number of famous people he hoped/planned to work with, Toriyama not among them. I think the names were Yoshitaka Amano, Kiyoshi Shigematsu (confirmed to be involved with MW's 'realistic' RPG) and Takehiko Inoue. Hmm.

::sigh:: I've stepped into Gamefaqs.

I loved the art for DQ8... really fun and still able to hit a nerve.
Personally I don't give a toss about DB, but millions of other people seem to.
I don't think this is a bad move anyway.

But these games aren't meant to please western tastes. They are meant to increase Microsoft's marketshare in Japan, where this style is popular.

Toriyama is one of the best mangaka ever existed. Don't get as an example his Dragon Ball Z series, because those are mainly created by his collaborators at his studio. But the first comics of Dragon Ball (the ones with the young Goku) and his "Dr Slump & Arale" (don't know if this was its name in the US) were asolutely awesome and totally exhilarating.

Thank you! Preach it man. Toriyama is God!!! I am probably the only one here that REFUSED to buy and boycotted Chrono Cross the moment I discovered they kicked out Toriyama and added some hack to the project. I will not play another Chrono game unless he is back on board as character designer.

Toriyama was unavailable, not kicked out

Has it ever been said whether Toriyama intended for the series to go in the direction it did with Dragonball Z? Mainly with Goku's alien heritage and all the intergalactic strife? I've always wondered cause watching the first and second series, they just seem so different.
