"We're thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia film adaption is in development - it's a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting," said Daniel Knight (Dknighter), Director of Kinetic Games and Lead Developer of Phasmophobia. "We never could've imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we're so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can't wait to share more as the project develops."

Since its early access launch in 2020, Phasmophobia has surpassed 23 million in global sales and has become a genre-defining title in multiplayer horror gaming. Its unique blend of immersive paranormal investigation and co-operative gameplay has cultivated a passionate global community and earned critical acclaim, including the Best Debut Game award at The 2020 Game Awards.

Kinetic Games also recently revealed the upcoming Chronicle update - a comprehensive overhaul of Phasmophobia's levelling, rewards, and progression systems coming this June. The game will see several more exciting updates throughout 2025 too, with a rework to the Grafton Farmhouse and a brand new map slated for later this year.

I got more faith because of Blumhouse, but this could go really had haha. It's still exciting nonetheless.

After the success of Five Nights at Freddy's and the increase in interest in video game movies, I think this is an interesting move for Blumhouse to grab a few indie 'horror/ jump scare' licenses. I have never played Phasmaphoria. I remember it being in early access. It came out in 2024? The game did get a pretty strong reception.

EDIT: I just want to add, that FNAF's is Blumhouses highest grossing movie worldwide. They already have a FNAF2 ready to go... Plus, they have been investing in a game studio. Which might produce some interesting results if they can pull in the right creative talent. Blumhouse looking at indie horror games to turn into movies... Condemned could make for a pretty cool movie.
